It took me a long time to figure out what crisis pregnancy centers are and to educate others about them, so they are an immediately recognizable issue to me. I also would imagine that when one wants to research them and their history that would be the term most likely to work in a search. Maybe the previous comment has a good answer: "Anti-abortion Crisis Pregnancy Centers"- it's long but covers everything - maybe could abbreviate as "Anti-abortion CPCs"

I like Anti-abortion "Crisi Pregnancy Centers" but maybe you could have a note, something similar to content warnings or trigger warnings, at the beginning of your article and then call them anti-abortion facilities or "crisis pregnancy facilities", throughout the rest of the article, whichever seems to be called for.

[Anti-abortion facilities (such as "Crisis Pregnancy Centers" or "Pregnancy Resource Centers") advertise themselves as helping women cope with unplanned pregnancies, but their primary aim is to prevent women from getting abortions.]

Forced-birthers (and by extension, CPCs) actively work to obscure their goal. In contrast, we should be the side of transparency. 'Anti-abortion center' is accurate without being dramatic. And in the interest of educating newcomers on the abortion debate, any time we can give something a self-explanatory label, we should do so.

Why not just mash it to "Crisis Anti-abortion Center?" Crisis perpetuation is, after all, their job at hand.

"Crisis pregnancy center" but in quotes

As a political comms person— this is a good question. The awareness around the term Crisis pregnancy center is important. Possibly an interim approach until there is better understanding?

Anti-Abortion Center (also known as Crisis Pregnancy Centers) Yes, I know it is unwieldy.

Folks who read you regularly are probably more in the know, but for folks who are just learning, this might be helpful to change the narrative around these shitty centers.

Anti Abortion Centers!

According to someone who has researched the origins of these centers, the anti abortion founders chose the name Crisis Pregnancy Center themselves to appear unbiased and cause confusion. Let’s not use their name!

Our MA team working on this issue already uses Anti Abortion Center with (CPC) linked so it’s clear. The transition has been easy. And when I inform people about these Anti Abortion Centers they get it right away.

The CPC started by my family member calls itself a "women's resource center." However, I think this name is intended to hide its religious mission. As far as calling it a CPC, the word "crisis" is not strictly descriptive, and I think it serves to psychologically disempower clients. Maybe 'faith-based pregnancy centers' is accurate and fair?

I agree with other commenters here-- I prefer anti-abortion center since let's call it like it is, but you can introduce it like a new acronym. "We're talking about LifeHouse, which is an anti-abortion center (also known as a crisis pregnancy center or CPC)..." and then continue using anti-abortion center after that, but you've made the connection for readers to transition the term.

One of the reason Dems have such huge issues with messaging is we try to soften everything. Just call it what it is!

We have one here that's mobile so we call it the "Shame Bus"

I think using a different term prevents people who encounter Crisis Pregnancy Centers from knowing that they are anti abortion establishments

In the early 90's I was a clinic escort/defender in Robbinsdale, MN, during a siege by OR. Their siege was turned around, but they did set up a "Crisis Pregnancy Center" across the street in late summer. A pregnant teenager, driven by her aunt, went there thinking it was the clinic. She got the usual treatment, and, after they had got her boyfriend's name, she decided that they had gone to the wrong place, so they left and came across the street to the clinic. Shortly after they got to the clinic, a car in a big hurry drove into the parking lot. We (the defenders) were caught off guard. The driver jumped out of the car and stormed into the clinic, where he put his fist through a sheetrock wall before the staff got him out.

The anti-abortion gang had used a name that a naive person might think was the name of a clinic to set up a violent attack. For this reason I think "anti-abortion center" is a better name. Even better might be "fake abortion clinic."

Crisis pregnancy center is a well-branded term, showing up organically and in paid ads. If I search for crisis pregnancy center near me the 3rd organic choice is Yelp's "The Best 10 Crisis Pregnancy Centers near me ." WTF?! I think it's important to rebrand it to be clear that they are anti-abortion and anti-choice. I would suggest using Anti-Abortion Crisis Pregnancy Center.
