Criminalization of women who miscarry: Something else that some wretched health care "providers" will do is, without informing the woman or obtaining her consent, take the expelled fetal tissue and run drug tests on it. In one case, a woman was arrested and literally taken by the police from the hospital, still bleeding, and still in her hospital gown.

Another time: When signing herself into the hospital to give birth, a woman reported that she had taken 1/2 a Valium a month earlier. They refused to give her newborn to her after the birth, and it took several times in court and roughly $10,000 for her to get custody of her child.

These may have already been reported here. The hatred of women makes it hard to breathe sometimes.

These were just two instances from the documentary, "Birthright - a War Story." Both happened while Roe was in still place.

We fought to keep hospitals and healthcare providers from also being cops by being required to turn in undocumented workers when they came in for healthcare. Looks like we have to do the same for women now that pregnancy has been criminalized - again.

I was born and raised in Warren, Ohio where Brittany Watts is from. Went to college in Ohio. Team D abandoned the state and the region by incentivizing industry to move and leave the state. The red meat took over. I left and went east to start my life at 22. Never returned to live there. I had a medical abortion in early 1982, long before pills. Planned Parenthood, saved me. In my married life, we moved to western Washington state in 2000. I was unexpectedly pregnant after my second child. It was scary. I was already 38. Decided to carry through with the pregnancy after an agonizing weekend. Then we went to a local Thai restaurant with our kids and I miscarried in the toilet bowl. The bleeding started. I knew it was over. Went to my OB in the following days. They were very kind. I was relieved as hell. I am now 61. It has been a privilege to live in a state that does not criminalize women’s reproductive care. When it came time to fight for a constitutional amendment for abortion in Ohio, I signed up, attended the Zoom calls, donated a heap of cash. It was a great team. They got it done. Joining the big White Women Zoom for Kamala tonight.

This is all about creating a chilling effect and scaring pregnant people.

Besides used tampons, pads and condoms to be sent to the Heritage Foundation - perhaps fetal tissue from a miscarriage should also be sent to them. It's a big part of their handiwork that got us into this situation, it only makes sense that these items be donated to them for safekeeping ...... you know, to honor "the unborn people".

Jessica thank you. I will be interested in hearing more about the Georgia case as it evolves. AGAIN, the care and compassion is not about the person who had a miscarriage or self managed abortion. Either scenario is a scary situation for that person. Callous and cruel and makes me mad. That person needs tender loving care.

I agree and love all the wonderful actions/accomplishments Harris has taken and the list definitely lifts her up. How impressive she is. I am so grateful for all she has done thus far and give me more! She will deliver. Love it!!

Georgia is one of the worst states - you can claim a six-week fetus on your tax return in that state. Imagine the scenarios...

Yep, just like Faux news said about us: "hopping into our electric vehicles to go get abortions". As if that offends us, LOL.... I don't drive an electric vehicle anyway..... so I would be hopping into my gas vehicle.

I know, right! How cool is that after, all these medically ignorant morons drone on about women swallowing cameras to check on their pregnancy, and rape never ocurring in pregnancy, that obviously flunked high school biology!

I think it was Jay Leno or one of those late-night guys who went out to the streets and asked passersby (mostly men) to name what female reproductive body parts they were pointing to on a medical drawing. Hilarious. They knew nothing.

Re: “early term” language: that phrase is a term of art and actually means something. Specifically, 37-38 weeks’ gestation. I saw in the linked article that the investigation said it was “way earlier” than 24 weeks. Did he actually use the phrase “early term”? Just worth noting another reason this has no business being in the realm of legislation or law enforcement. And super misleading if journalists report it that way.

Law enforcement, witnesses speak on fetus found in Grovetown Walmart trash can

GROVETOWN, Ga. (WJBF) – The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a case involving a dead fetus found in a trash can at the Walmart off of I-20 in Grovetown on Tuesday.

An investigator with the sheriff’s office told NewsChannel 6 the fetus was miscarried, and the parents notified Wellstar MCG Health after it was disposed of in a trash can in the Walmart parking lot.

“The family was really cooperative and told them everything that transpired and the hospital contacted us,” said Investigator Philip Clark.

Deputies and other first responders arrived on the scene to confiscate the fetus at around 6 p.m.

Based off conversations with the family, Inv. Clark believes the miscarriage caught them off guard.

“It’s not something that people deal with very frequently and I think they just kind of panicked,” he said.

He said the fetus was not old enough to survive outside of the womb.

“Normally it would be around twenty-four weeks and this one does not appear to be anywhere near that age – way earlier,” he said.

There are not many regulations in Georgia regarding how to dispose of a non-viable fetus, so now law enforcement is investigating to see if there was any criminal intent.

“It’s something we have to look into code sections about, see what we can find if there is anything,” Inv. Clark said.

We spoke with one woman who was there when the fetus was found.

“There were tarps being placed over the trash can and I immediately wanted to try and document and figure out what’s going on,” said Briana Alley. “Regardless of whatever your situation is, you can always bring a baby or a deceased fetus to the hospital or give it a proper burial.”

Other witnesses we spoke to agree that it should’ve been handled differently.

“I’m a mother of three and I do know what it’s like to see blood like that because I hemorrhaged with my daughter,” said Brianna Underwood. “And I know it’s awful and it’s gruesome, and I feel like when they seen that they should’ve went and got medical personnel.”

The sheriff’s office is working with the GBI to do an autopsy on the fetus. Investigators say if you find yourself in a similar situation, contact your doctor or call 911 before disposing of the fetus.

Actually, there might be some kind of issue here, that of medical waste. It reminds me of women who advocate sending mailing used tampons to various targets as protest. Or maybe North Koreans sending balloons carrying poop to South Korea. Not exactly war, but serious trouble nonetheless. You also have the problem of people abandoning live births in dumpsters. We clearly have a front here for those seeking to criminalize abortions, but we need to seize the problem from a larger perspective.

What are people even supposed to do with fetal remains? Bury them in the back yard for the dog to dig up? Spend thousands on a burial plot?

Random thoughts:

(1) if healthcare staff are going to betray patients' confidentiality, then it is time that we the people demand to know their names. Call them out for whatt they are:____. Fill in the blank with your choice of epithet.

(2) I like to think of Kamala Harris as the Freedom Czar: thr freedom to think as we choose, to make our own decisions about our bodies and our lives.

Ask J.D. Vance why he's afraid of freedom.

In reading and watching speeches by Kamala Harris, something really grabbed my attention. She says “Trust women.” I think that is the argument and slogan. I also think that abortion rights advocates should ask forced birth advocates why they don’t trust women to make decisions about their bodies. Why can’t we trust women? Are their mothers, sisters, nieces, aunts and friends really that untrustworthy? I hesitate to use the word “murderers” because I don’t believe abortion is murder, but that’s what anti-abortion people believe. So the question becomes - are you afraid that all women around you are murderous Jezebels? If so, that is very sad. I trust women - not government - to make the best decisions about their bodies and their healthcare. Trust Women.

It's not about murder, it's not even about "unborn babies", it's about controlling women.

A woman who controls her own reproduction can decide when she wants or IF she wants to have a baby. She can work, doesn't have to get married, until she is ready.

Authoritarians cannot have that.

Expand full comment

When people talk about anti-abortion as a tool for controlling women, I have to agree. But when I hear people say that it is not about "unborn babies" that is completely out of touch. It is all, all about "unborn babies", "unborn children", "murdering babies", "murdering children". It goes on and on like that. That's where it starts for most people. Those most passionate about the subject know less about feminism then they do about abortion. They think that feminism fools women into "murdering their babies". And they know less about pregnancy than they do about abortion. It is all about gestational personhood.

Expand full comment

If it were true that these forced birthers actually cared about "unborn babies", they would take better care of mothers and infants. But they don't.

They want to cut WIC, SNAP, they want hospitals to refuse care to women with pregnancy complications, they want women to suffer for the consequences of enjoying sex. THAT'S what it's about.

"HOT MIC: While speaking to a volunteer at a fundraiser in March, Minnesota State Sen. Calvin Bahr (R-East Bethel) blamed women for their own unwanted pregnancies:

"If you're going to party, you got to pay the consequences."

Expand full comment

No, WIC, SNAP and anything having to do with actual babies has nothing to do with abortion. It is the mythical existence of a real person inside a pregnant woman that is the problem and her relationship with that conviction that is the issue. Gestational personhood, the belief that as soon as that ova is fertilized, it assumes the moral rights of any living person and especially the woman who has become pregnant. This is the problem.

"If you're going to party, you got to pay the consequences." This is not just plain misogyny. It is anti-family since "partying" is how we all get here and we hope we get here in the middle of some happy family with "partying" being a part of the routine that created it and keeps it happy. How is it that "paying the consequences"? The guy sounds like a real creep in the bedroom. And where is that guy in "paying the consequences"?

Not to mention billions of fertilized eggs never implant and thus never become life, which is why "life at conception" is such bs.

I mean, objectively, they don't trust women, especially women who want abortions. But even their stance of not prosecuting women tells us that they don't trust us and don't think we're actualized real people with our own brains.
