As hard as it is to read this newsletter everyday, I'm sure it's incredibly difficult to do all the reporting for it. I am happily a paying subscriber and appreciate all of the work that you do. Having said that, I look for the day when our electeds put you out of business when Biden wins and he makes abortion legal as the law of the land.

Thank you. We don't win many battles here in Lubbock. It lifts my spirits to know that is not always the case elsewhere. Right now we are fighting for Planned Parenthood and their lawsuit from the state of Texas with the presiding judge K in Amarillo. We will prevail.

Your and Grace's work is stellar. Fact based, and done with compassion. As a retired surgical assistant who has assisted with so many reproductive care procedures, I salute you both.

I am SO grateful for your heads up and hit the ground running efforts to arm us with information for protecting all woman’s rights to healthcare and our own bodily autonomy.

Chilling! Notice a version of this has to happen for any challenge to a future Restored Roe. Replace trump's appeal with a challenge to a future Restored Roe in front of SCOTUS.

Elie Mystal: "...Democrats would have to win the upcoming presidential election and the House and the Senate. Then Congress would have to pass a law expanding the number of justices on the Supreme Court, then the Senate would have to pass that law as well, which, at a minimum, would likely have to include the Senate getting rid of the filibuster. Then the president would have to sign such a bill, and appoint additional Supreme Court justices who do not think that presidents should be kings, then those justices would have to be confirmed. And all of that would have to happen before the current Supreme Court hears whatever Trump appeal from his January 6 charges comes up next, because if court expansion happens after the current Supreme Court dismisses the charges against him, double-jeopardy will attach and Trump can never be prosecuted again under less fascist court. Jessica, I consider Abortion Every Day and Erin in the Morning (Erin Reed's Substack on issues essential to the trans community and her legislative risk maps, both for minors and increasingly now for adults) to be essential every day reading, even more so than the Washington Post, my hometown newspaper and arguably one of the important and well known in the country. (I cancelled my subscription to the Times when they were regularly publishing anti-trans propaganda.) The Venn Diagram for states that have (or had before constitutional amendments put reproductive justice in the state Constitution) and target trans healthcare (especially targeted towards minors) is pretty darn close to a perfect circle. I also regularly share AED on my Facebook, and sometimes in a socialist feminist Discord that I'm active in.) Please, keep up your vital work.

Oh, and I remember from Sunday school as a teenager in the 80s, in a class that was taught by our sunshine synagogue's Orthodox Rabbi, that the life of the mother always takes precedence over the potential life of the unborn child, and that under certain circumstances an abortion would be required under Jewish law. (Personally, these days I would change the word mother to pregnant person, as AFAB non-binary people can give birth and even some trans men do. {I remember reading a few years ago that a trans man in Illinois was listed as his child's father in the birth certificate, and his trans wife was listed as mother. 💗}) I remember he justified it using a reference that I believe was from the Talmud that if someone attacked a pregnant woman resulting in her death, that the penalty was a life for a life, but if only the unborn child was killed it would just be a financial penalty, having only been a potential life. (According to Jewish law life begins when a baby takes their first breath. So pretty obviously only after birth.)

A number of religions have chimed in to say that their religion permits or mandates abortion to save the pregnant person's life, but so far this argument hasn't gained any traction. I don't know if the Satanists are on the level or just trolling, but under other circumstances I would say they're doing God's work on this issue.

If it is the Satanic Temple, they are actually Atheists that needed a deity, to bring legal challenges, to the right wing fanatics using their (so-called) religion to take away people's rights, so they picked Satan to troll the actual evil ones. They are not deists, and do not actually believe in Satan per se.

Oh I guess that was Exodus 21:22-25.

Thank you, Jessica for the two years. Dobbs and worse will be for eternity if we don't get serious.

If people were not serious before, they ought to now. If the Democrats don't get a trifecta this November (H, S, WH) the country will be crippled beyond recognition, (see SCOTUS today -- they are essentially daring a Democratic president to be as corrupt as a Republican president will be and worse without threat of prosecution).

Jessica, your newsletter is the best source for abortion news I've ever read, and I know the amount of work that must go into it, along with your tiktoks, and other social media!

Thank you!

I had to comment on this post because it was the most current -- but the survey information went to my email (I tend to read all my Substacks via email for the most part). Sorry for the confusion!

Maybe put an option in your newsletter for subscribers to pay for a subscription for someone else? I would be happy to pay for someone who does not have the funds to also have access to this newsletter. I really don't know how you manage all the information! It's invaluable. Thank you!

Congratulations, Jessica! I can’t tell you how useful the information you provide has been, especially when I facilitated a discussion at a well-attended town hall meeting at my church.

We’re using the Ten Commandments nonsense to further the truth that the Bible cannot be used to oppose abortion by hoping to present a plaque of Exodus 21:22-25–causing a miscarriage is not covered under ‘Thou shalt not kill—to Texas’ Lt. Governor. Thanks for keeping us inspired.
