What has never made sense to me is the fact that these republican voters miss the fact that granting control over women’s reproduction means she doesn’t own that right; the state does. And if the state owns the right then the state can determine if you are allowed to start a family, how many children you can have, when you will be sterilized, how you will deliver your children, all in the way it serves the state. That’s not a democracy. In democracy, the state serves the people; not the other way around.

The republican uber-religious oligarchic donors don't want a democracy.

I suspect that many of them have grown much more comfortable with a stronger state, because they see it as protection from what real democracy brings: racial, gender, and sexual diversity, freedom of ideas to challenge the status quo, and above all, change, that old ways of thinking and doing things might die out and be replaced by something different. All of this they are very afraid of. Perhaps afraid enough to accept fascism as a safer alternative.

Agreed. This is an alarming situation. In order to truly be a free people, we must accept the responsibility that goes with those rights. They claim to be the party of personal responsibility and freedom from a “nanny” state while passing laws that restrict our freedom to choose and our ability to vote for those choices. It’s paradoxical.

Exactly. Abortion rights are democracy. But the right is openly against democracy.

the normalization: they're not even hiding what they're trying to do

Republicans have learned that no matter how noxious they are, they can always get at least ~48% of the two-party vote nationally, and always be within a hair's breadth of total control of all branches of the government. Unless and until that changes, it's a feedback loop and they will keep getting worse.

The republican politicians who are writing the bans on abortion and travel are not acting as true Christians. They have become radicalized and are godforsaken idol worshipers. What they are doing is not what true Christians would do. Remember WWJD? What would Jesus do? Well, NONE of this!! It is really sick how they are trying to take all rights away from women and girls. So sick!!! Let's teach them a lesson in November.

Yes to all of this, Cathy. I would also add that they are killing and maiming women and girls.

If Florida needs 60% to pass their bill, I predict that they will get at least 70%. I have no doubt.

You know when they changed that rule from 50% to 60%? Right after we passed felon's reenfranchising their voting rights. DeathSantis immediately said they would have to pay all their fines and fees in full, and of course there was no system to even tell them what amount that would be!

That was never in the ammendment, he pulled that out of his posterior. If all the people they have arrested herefor living while brown, or black, could vote, they would never win another election here.
