Thank you, Jessica for keeping me informed. I’m a volunteer signature collector in AZ to get Abortion Access on the November ballot.

Julie - Thank you so much for doing the very hard work of signature gathering. It’s such an important task. We just have to show legislators in these abortion ban states what the people really want

Only a truly sadistic person would say hemorrhaging is not an "objective medical standard" for care. These are very sick people trying to finesse voters. If their cause was righteous they'd be transparent.

I hope Republican women wake up before it's too late...

There already IS a standard of care…outlined by medical professionals not wingnut politicians 😒

“South Dakota Legislators Hospital” has no more medical validity than “Alabama Judges Medical Center.” I wish I could seat a “Doctors Supreme Court” and charge these people with practicing medicine without a license or a bit of medical knowledge.

I thought it was beautiful too Danielle❤️. Appreciate you reframing this for me. First it was the governor passing a law that you cannot have diversity support groups on campus, and then this.

I’m going to go see the statues when they get fully set up. It’s lovely walking on campus to see the creativity.

Trying to control artists just hit me hard. 🥰

These people are ignorant savages who, even so, know how to manipulate language. This is a war none of us asked for. But they did. They must be defeated.

It isn’t even about OB/GYN residents not having the opportunity to learn abortion care in red states anymore. It’s about why would any young person who wants to become a doctor go into the field of OB/GYN at all. It’s already the most litigious specialty. Why would anyone want to take on that amount risk along with the possibility of being charged with a felony for providing standard of care to their patients. Maternal care deserts will just be known as Death Valley.

So just like CPCs, these red states will start funneling tax payer money to companies/individuals to make these bogus educational materials and videos. Industries and financial eco systems sprouting up to support these hateful oppressive laws that are killing women and destroying families. Doctors and medical personnel don’t need this garbage.

Horrified. Beyond hideousness. I’m screaming at the mendacity.

Thanks for writing this every day.

I'm glad I've taken up meditation again; otherwise I'd have smoke coming out of my ears. This shit is nightmarish.

Well I don’t have much more to add to the conversation. Thank you all. However, the anti abortion movement is going after ART at my Alma Mater U of Houston. 🤷‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️. Define what art should be. 🧐🤨

Everyone wanna know what else they are planning to do if they get power this Nov?

“How Project 2025 Will F*ck Your Life”

It’s as horrible as what Jessica tells us about reproductive healthcare, except it’s all the other areas of our lives that that plan to take over & dramatically change.

Are any of you away that the Christian Nationalists are trying to get 34 states to agree to hold a NEW Constitutional Convention to completely write a new US constitution based on their extreme religious beliefs???!!! They have 28 states already!!! They only need 6 more…. & we will have lost the America we’ve known.

This is absolutely life & death serious

Gorgeous statue.

The Texas Right to Life quote in that article --- "Disobedience to God certainly should not be esteemed by society, much less lauded with a statue," the organization wrote on its site, while calling for people to petition against Sikander's work."

Whose "disobedience" of whose 'God'?? I don't like the image they portray of their 'God'. They're the ones with "disobedience" for what I was taught my 'God' may be and I don't want their 'God' governing me. There's nothing in their Bible denying me the right to an abortion, especially if I'm bleeding to death, which would also cause the death of my fetus. What the hell is their point!!!? Can they not get beyond their hateful projections of themselves? The past year of this crap just makes me want to scream to them "to hell with your God." So many of us wouldn't be here if we had't been able to have the emergency care needed which they now deny to others. It's past time to stop walking on tiptoes around their so-called godliness.

What a beautiful statue. It seems that statues, paintings and books really offend conservative Christians. They don’t want their precious children to see or read anything that might be educational or beautiful. Then those children might form thoughts of their own.

Counterpoint: i would love them to try and diagram out their insane policies in writing. These weird people are so damaged. They still think they just need to better communicate their dumb dangerous policies and then it’ll be fiiinnneee and people will praise them for their great ideaz.

It would be really fun to mark them up in red ink. Little notes in the margins with actual care standards or outcomes.

WTF?  UPDATE ON IVF

According to the lawsuit, a patient at Mobile’s Center for Reproductive Medicine removed embryos from the cryogenic freezer but “the subzero temperatures at which the embryos had been stored freeze-burned the patient’s hand, causing the patient to drop the embryos on the floor, killing them.”

My opinion of the above...

99 percent shit and 1 percent hot air.

Was it CYA that made them say the word patient 3 times?  Who the hell is this patient and what idiot let them into what should be a highly restricted access area? They said that the embryos did not belong to the patient who dropped them.  Again,  WTF?  Just how stupid is this patient?  Do they understand the concept of temperature?  Do they pick up dishes straight from the oven with their bare hands???

As for the chief judge -  hol *e* shit !  Seven mountains are batshit crazy .

Chief Justice Parker said he is in favor of the “Seven Mountain Mandate,” a theological approach that calls on Christians to impose fundamentalist values on all aspects of American life.

Since you're still reading,  the IVF article comments were fantastic.   Venn diagrams were mentioned,  impressive 👏.   Popsicle was a morbid delight.🎯   Blastula,  other developmental references 👍.  If someone wants to mention 🍆🍠 ,I'm listening. Lastly,  hear's a shout out to cute brain organelles that might be amongst the targeted (especially those little goobers  that have those proto eyes🧿🧿.)

What about stem cell lines- are they safe?   What about pluripotent cells?

😊.   Most of it was meant to be be serious.   Thanks to the wonkette piece,  I can now add that the patient was a guy.

A few hours ago I saw an IM with the message. My family is requesting privacy at this time.   This was over a picture of a carton of eggs,  with one broken on the floor.

So, where does the South Dakota medical association stand on this bill? And the South Dakota OB/GYN association? Are they happy that legislators will be schooling them on medical standards of care? Have they made any statements about this? Or, do we just hear…silence?

Expand full comment

Yes, we need to keep asking this question until we get an answer. I would not want to be a doctor, especially an OB/GYN, right now, but if the doctors surrender it's hard to feel any hope for the rest of us. We need them to stand up so we can have their backs.

I don't want to always sound like I'm shining you on, Jessica, I really do have the odd original thought beyond thanking you for yours, but when I read an AED piece as revealing as this one (which happens so very often), my first thought is, "She's on to you MF's and now so are we😡" TY TY TY🙏🏻
