This statistical game has been played to remove pain care as an option even for those in hospice in many areas. It can’t get any traction in media. Try to expose it, you’ll be decimated. How do I know? Married to a former medical examiner. Both physicians. Both very ill, barely functioning, and little hope for the future for disabled folks in pain. So many suicides already, and overdoses still going up because it’s a different population.

Oh and lots of info is already reported on everyone’s prescriptions routinely to DEA and law enforcement. Forget HIPAA. Physicians are no longer in control. AI is used to determine whether you can fill scripts and if you are a female and have been raped or abused, this may keep you from getting post op pain control. Not kidding.

I know this was posted some time ago but its one of the most outrageous things that the misogyny movement is doing. Keep that light shining on them!

It won’t matter how obvious the deception is. The rabid anti-choice will eat up any arguing point that affirms their self-righteous opinions without double checking it, and then use it confidently and with force in every argument they make. And they’ll go home and plaster the ceiling with self-satisfaction after telling all those hoors to close their legs.

And it’s not just regular people who will do this. At last weeks senate hearing on abortion, Marsha Blackburn of TN repeated WIDELY DEBUNKED MEME-LEVEL MALARKEY about the VA governor passing bills that allow post-birth abortion. She knows she’s full of it. We know she’s full of it. She knows that we know that she’s full of it. But she charges on with impunity because she knows NOBODY WILL HOLD HER ACCOUNTABLE FOR LYING.

I even tweeted the democratic members of the senate ethics committee and asked why senators are allowed to lie during these hearings. (https://twitter.com/the__jlh/status/1651275699175702528?s=46&t=eBdSdTM2EU6FJs1XIRoOhw) Got Nada, of course.

Additionally, these hearings are trash and need heavy rules reform due to the performative politics of people not interested in assessing truth. They shouldn’t be able to ask disingenuous questions to corner someone in a “gotcha” about hypothetical situations which don’t happen. I feel like democrats are so woefully unprepared for this fight. I’d do a million times better at one of these hearings than these witnesses and our representatives. Except for the woman from the Texas lawsuit. That broad for president.

I wish there were some indication that doctors, who as a group are not exactly powerless, would start organizing to resist these Orwellian laws.

It might take a few years for the law of unintended consequences to catch up with the texas (I refuse to capitalize, hah!), but when it does I will laugh with gusto from my ringside seat. Unless I can move away from this hellhole first. I’m tired of being angry and powerless to do anything about it.

Yeah, we need an organized resistance with a specific plan to disrupt. One advantage they have, especially early, is they're authoritarian robots so they carry out orders efficiently. But the lack of critical thinking will get them in the end.

I've thought about it a lot and I'm thinking that the logic behind this transparent manufacturing of data is due to more projection. You know how every Republican accusation is a confession? I bet there are enough individuals in key positions who think this is just how science in general... works. It might be a blind spot big enough for them to not realize that once the data collection methods are pointed out, the issues with it are wildly obvious.

Very good point. VERY good point.

I'm glad Carrie is leaving Texas. Tell Sue to come to New Mexico where she will be well treated.

There has not been NEAR ENOUGH reporting on this! Why is Jessica not being hit up by every single station?! The second I heard about this I felt like burning the place down. And then I came here and subscribed. I’m so F pissed.

Reading these posts are one of the hardest things I do each day (and I have a MIL in hospice). I've lived in Texas almost my whole life and while part of me wants to move once my kids finish school in 2 years the other part says I have to stay and keep fighting. And I stopped filling out medical forms that asked about my reproductive history a long time ago. Thank you doing what you do b/c people need to know.

I think Texans could really use something - anything - to boost morale right now. It's horrific enough just to read about it; having to live through it is a whole other thing. I wish all of you strength.

Wow! Jessica, this is remarkable reporting by you!

Looking back at the way the tobacco industry always hid behind the lack of data proving a direct link between their product and lung cancer, we learned during the fracking years to create a database that would prove fracking was destroying water systems.

Now, the bad guys are CREATING misleading and falsified databases! There is no bottom to the depths these zealots will sink. They are evil.

I had NO idea this was happening so thank you for the reporting on this HORRIFIC situation in TX and possibly other red states in the near future. I was wondering if anyone can sue TX regarding this part of the law, like the AMA, ACLU or even Federal Govt. Does it violate privacy laws for patients or doctors? This is really truly scary, it feels like something the Nazis would have done.

Folks in more liberal cities like Austin aren’t safe - no one is safe in Texas. It’s time for big events like SXSW (south by southwest) to leave TX.

And don’t even get me started on Tesla and Elon Musk. The employees who moved to TX from

CA or wherever else won’t get special treatment or be exempt from these horrific laws even though they say they’ll be able help their employees.

There were lawsuits in Idaho and Indiana led by pro-abortion groups like the ACLU and Planned Parenthood trying to tackle the (nearly identical) versions of this abortion complication mandate. No legal successes yet.
