I agree with Jan Thie- thecUS electorate were faced with a choice in 2016- an articulate, intelligent, internationally engaged, highly experienced feminist, and competent woman who would have defended the right to choose snd would have advanced Womens rights including rights to contraception OR - a bullying, narcissistic, sexual predator ( condemned by his own mouth) . The electorate chose … ‘ yay! Let’s choose the misogynist! THAT’s the kind of guy we want to be our role model. ( we also have a misogynistic leading us in the UK, though he is pro-choice).

women are NOT powerless. We have a vote and we have a voice. We have to USE our power.

This insult by the SCOTUS May be just the kick up the bum that many women need to get out and VOTE!

I agree with you, Jessica, about our Marina Hyde- she is a national treasure of ours as you are of your country. But although it is HORRIBLE, it is not a surprise. Trump SAID what he has going to do and he did it. He SAID he was going to stack the US Supreme Court with pro-lifers and did so. Sadly this outcome was inevitable if so many WOMEN voted for Trump ( 52% of US white Womens voted for Trump, less black US women and ? More Latina women- not sure about the latter). The Democrats ARE pro-choice- why don’t US women vote for the Democrats in greater numbers?

Thanks, I needed this. As someone who has also fought, organized, marched, voted, spoken out, provided, and sued state and federal governments, I'm tired of the pep talks about this being the fight of our lives. Let's put it on the ballots in red states. We've won when voters have to directly decide.

I have a new strategy. Every time I hear a right wing talking point in person (like today at work) I rotate giving to an abortion fund abortionfunds.org, plan c, yellowhammer fund and the group behind aid access. The right wants us to believe we are powerless but everyone can do something (particularly collectively)and it does not have to be financial. But I am still pissed at being gaslit for years by the democratic establishment, ie joe Biden et al.

We need to push for a constitutional amendment- make it law, now.

Thank you Jessica.

Thank you, Jessica, for the important reminder that it is okay to take a moment ot two to stop, breathe, and mourn what we all knew was coming. Far too often, I, and many others, immediately move into "fight" mode because that is how survivors survive! But as you wisely pointed out, there is, sadly, plenty of time to fight back, and plenty of strategies to employ. Today I will mourn with some wine and a big donation to NARAL. Tomorrow I storm downtown and the capitol.

Please let's not turn on each other. Let's direct our anger where it belongs and not at each other.

All that - but one of my first thoughts was one I have voiced more than once: Everybody who didn't vote for Clinton in 2016 for 'reasons'*: Fuck you, from here to eternity.

The only small point of light: They can't hide any more. They are out and proud about their hard-on for Gilead, so now every election is one about survival - and nobody can hide: you may be a fiscal Conservative and not consider yourself a social one but your vote still kills and enslaves women.

So, that's the only good news: no more hiding - and everything is now Very Infuckingcredibly Personal.

*In states where that vote mattered.
