Can't wait to post this one. I live in Kansas (near the state line) and work at a major medical center in KC, MO. People need to know what this fascist is up to! Thanks for all you do, Jessica (and your team)!

Should be fired if he doesn't perform his duties.

What's interesting about this to me is this is the kind of move that usually backfires. Voters on the fence don't say, "oh dear, if we vote for this we'll upset the attorney general so I guess we'll vote against." They say "fuck you". We may be seeing that dynamic play out in Ohio with what Republicans have done there. So does that mean in Missouri they're already conceding they'll lose the referendum if there is one? Or maybe it's just Occam's razor; the guy is a stupid asshole who doesn't know what he's doing and is throwing a temper tantrum. (Also, lmao if he thinks he's worth $21 million).

My home state. I hope and pray Missourians prevail against these Christo-fascists.

big fat baby. last person who pulled that kind of stunt (woman who wouldn't give marriage licenses to gays when they were legally entitled to them) went to jail.

Sorry I actually laughed when I read this. It’s so ridiculous. But I live in Canada, so what do I know?

Expand full comment

I hear people say Canada is just a few years behind the U.S. I like to think that's not true, but, notwithstanding.....

You live in a more civilized country.

I really want an AED shame directory of all the people/orgs to be wary of. Also the opposite.

Taking an oath to protect and defend the constitutions of the US and a State need to come with some kind of consequence if a legislator reneges on their promise. Otherwise, what’s the point? Our government is lousy with politicians who took these oaths and have broken them. I’m particularly worried about the House and the 147 Congresspeople who voted to overturn the election results on Jan. 6. They shouldn’t still hold their jobs.

As a MO resident I have no doubt this is what they'll do. When we voted to expand Medicare and medicaid they REFUSED to do it and got around actually doing what the voters wanted. I feel physically ill on a daily basis. If a republican takes office in 2024 I fear it will be a full Gilead *as if we aren't half there already * . I hope everyone votes Blue and by 01/06/2024 the speaker is Jefferies. The MAGA cultist Johnson definitely won't certify an election. Thanks for all you do ,Jessica and team

That is the problem in America. Voters who will endorse reasonable policies in referendums won't elect Democrats, which is the only way to actually enact those policies. The reasons for the disconnect are probably quite unpleasant.

So he's refusing to do his job as it's laid out in the constitution of his state. In any sane world, that would get him fired. Argh.

Something interesting I just learned(relearned) a couple hours ago. Abraham of biblical fame was originally named Abram.🤔

I know! Though my surname Abram is actually the Romanian form of Abraham…

The good news (temporarily) in Texas is that Amarillo did not pass Mark Lee Dickson’s travel ban, mostly because of enforcement issues. I had an interesting theological talk yesterday with the mayor of Amarillo--a perfect example of how evangelicals had to back into the Bible in the late 1970s. Lots and lots of contradictions.

And Jessica would love this--when I recite stories of horror for women having to leave the state because of severe abnormalities to face termination alone, without spouses, friends or family, he grumbled while mentioning ‘exemptions’ in passing.

He is a f**k. We MUST change to politics in this state. I live in an area that makes me grateful for being a old gray haired lady. They won't suspect my "subversive" way of thinking. These assholes need to go -- Vote Democrat or we have no hope here.

Thank you! You are doing amazing work.

Maybe you could’ve quoted Exodus 21:22-24, which explicitly says that the life in a womb is not worth as much as the life of a living, breathing person.

(Unless you did that, then I apologize)

That’s one of the highlights on the list of six reasons the Bible cannot be used to oppose borrowing. Thanks for mentioning it.

Right! And the bible certainly says nothing about guns.

Expand full comment

To be fair, guns weren’t invented at the times all of the Bible were written. That being said, there are a lot of selections on swords and violence…

Ha! I just get tickled when I hear conservatives going on about their "god-given right to bear arms." The god of the Old Testament is in favor of all kinds of killing, including that of babies (Psalms 137:9), and punishing the pregnant women of Samaria (Hosea 13:16).
