There are those who justify every lie and misdirection with the fervour of someone already deeply engaged in what they see as a religious war. Then there are those who are using these religious zealots as tools in their own quest for power. We know there have been many false prophets and pedophiles in positions of leadership in the “Christian” Nationalist movement, living sumptuously on the widows’ mites of their followers, who convince these followers that they have a pipeline to Heaven. If God has any sense of humour and irony, she will sea that they die a painful lingering death from an easily prevented disease. When trump said “Christians, I love you Christians,” I expected him to have an aneurism.
Thank you for sharing this important information. I had missed the news about Texas and minor access to contraception without parent consent. I am horrified the Biden Administration would just give up?!
It looks like women are going to have to start dying in the thousands again - per Year - before there is enough anger in this country to end this “right to life” bullshit. I am old enough to remember what it was like when Roe became law. The popular media and religious organizations (except the Catholic Church) were pro-choice. Literally thousands of women were dying. Tens of thousands of women per year, were being permanently mutilated from self induced abortions.
The “right to life” people were shouted down with pictures and names of dead sisters, mothers and daughters.
They were dying before Roe, but there were also sepsis wards in hospitals where they tried to save women. Now we let women develop sepsis and then make half-hearted attempts (if any at all) to save them. Additionally, we have started to dismantle the ways to keep track of these deaths. This is government-sanctioned murder.
Thoughts on whether it would be a good time for insurance companies to label D&Cs and D&Es simply with their technical names? Just thinking about my D&E, which was labeled as “abortion” on my statement. I get the idea of fighting for the general term, but I’d also like women to be able to receive appropriate miscarriage care.
I don’t know what statements say at abortion clinics, but I think using the technical name could be good for everyone? I suspect that if they tried to do a D&C ban rather than an abortion ban, there would be a lot more general blowback.
Also seems like Biden administration declining to enforce Title X confidentiality re contraception in TX bc of conflict with state law does not bode well for minors’ access in Mississippi or Louisiana?
Re J’s case from Texas, seems like the clinic was actually in Santa Teresa, New Mexico, just over the border from El Paso Texas. Also seems odd to me that this paper published the fact the folks stayed in an El Paso hotel along with the risk that posed.
I've recently been writing about Andrew Ferguson, currently on the Federal Trade Commission and lobbying Trump to be promoted to its chair. In his resumé he's insisting that he'll use "deceptive trade practices" legislation to pursue doctors who provide trans health care. And while that's worrying to all good persons, of course, the idea that the FTC can fine any doctor out of existence because a doctor didn't discuss a particular favourite (but outlier) study on the risks of trans health should also scare the hell out of reproductive rights advocates.
Just as attacks on trans health have been fuelled by dangers derived from invented, cockamamie, and/or legit but misinterpreted research, so too have attacks on abortion and reproductive health (e.g. "abortion causes breast cancer"). The tactics right wingers have used against abortion have often shown up later in their rhetoric and legislation against trans health care. If Ferguson establishes this practice at the federal level (these types of "deceptive practices" justifications have been used against abortion rights at the state level before), it won't be long until the FTC is **also** going after abortion providers.
The current FTC Chair has overstayed the end of her term b/c no new nominee has been confirmed, but she's auto-booted once one is. Whether it's Ferguson or someone else, I fear that now that this idea is out there, anyone Trump appoints will start weaponizing DTP actions against all the doctors we most depend upon.
Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually use it against oncologists who warn patients against quack cancer remedies.
Regarding the piece about attacks on abortion pills, and the interview with the largest abortifacient ever seen (would you not start to bleed just at the sight of him??) I'm not happy with saying what questions reporters should ask. I think it just puts ideas into his excuse for a brain.
The sponsor of the mifepristone controlled substance bill in Texas still hasn’t responded to our cell/embryonic personhood question so he and any cosponsors will be getting calls next week to find out why they can’t answer a simple question related to the proposed bill.
“For example, the Republican AGs want the FDA to revoke access to abortion medication for anyone under 18 years-old, claiming that mifepristone could impact little girls’ “developing reproductive systems.” WTAF?! Doesn’t PREGNANCY impact little girls’ developing reproductive systems? What is wrong with these people?!
They talk as if women and girls don't have the capacity to understand their bodies or to make their own decisions.
It's infantilization. It's also evidence of the forced birthers' fear and anger that womtn can choose lives that contain more than subservient, perpetual pregnancy.
On a stupid “Abortion abolitionist” YouTube channel, this young woman told me “women not having miscarriage care is a MYTH”.. I told her she was DEAD WRONG about that, my comment deleted. I posted again. I know there are names of women on Ms Magazine that have been denied miscarriage management, I might just post a list of names for her to look up. Unfortunately, links aren’t allowed on YouTube. Why make it easier to refute their nonsense? 🤦🏻♀️
Ok this is exactly what I've been saying, especially to my dumb family. If my sister gets pregnant and is visiting our parents in Florida and something happens and she needs abortion care immediately, SHE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ACCESS IT. So I think she's just not gonna have kids. Which.... I mean I apologize to my son for bringing him into this world every day.

People voted for this. They elected the rapist. What else are we supposed to do? I am so despondent and angry.

Republicans and conservatives really do not care about our lives.
The sponsor of the mifepristone controlled substance bill in Texas still hasn’t responded to our cell/embryonic personhood question so he and any cosponsors will be getting calls next week to find out why they can’t answer a simple question related to the proposed bill.
Hi Kim, I have sent you a message on Instagram about a book by Matthew D. Taylor called The Violent Tale It By Force.
“For example, the Republican AGs want the FDA to revoke access to abortion medication for anyone under 18 years-old, claiming that mifepristone could impact little girls’ “developing reproductive systems.” WTAF?! Everything is wrong with those people! They prefer a child die attempting to give birth to her rapist stepdad, or other incestuous rapist's baby.
They talk as if women and girls don't have the capacity to understand their bodies or to make their own decisions.
