This case tees up the issue to land right in the Supreme Court next spring. The suit was filed in Amarillo, TX, where the only federal judge is Kaczmarek, who is blatantly anti-abortion. So the plaintiffs will win at the trial court level, setting up the appeal, in either 2 (first the appeals court, then the Supreme Court), or 1 (straight to SCt) steps. No mystery about why it was filed now: no matter who wins the election, this will be waiting for them, with a Supreme Court that spelled out how it wanted the case presented so they could rule the way they want to.
What does this mean for the OB crash carts? Are we going go from having doctors running timed drills to access the medication when patient are hemorrhaging after birth, to not having it available at all??? I’m due in June, this isn’t an abstract threat to me.
Although it’s absolutely criminal we have to have drills about getting the locked up Miso….we have it down. It’s for our own sanity, as well as for the safety of our patients. And remember we have a shit ton of other agents that are first line for hemorrhage, and acute awareness of the need to act decisively and swiftly if things go down, now more than ever.
I know you can’t help but have heightened anxiety being pregnant in this time and place, but take heart at that knowledge.
I hope you have the kind of OB you can have a close conversation with about all the stress amidst your happy anticipation of June. You may have to broach the subject yourself, because we’re in trauma mode right now, and not every doc is a natural talker, but we follow patients’ lead well.

If Trump wins the election, which he very well might, the medication becomes illegal everywhere, under all circumstances, on January 20th anyway. So this only pertains to if Harris wins the election, and becomes president despite the legal challenges, insurrection, and/or coup attempts. In that situation, the administration is going to spend its four years deciding when and how to comply with adverse supreme court decisions, of which there will be a great many.
The vast majority of Americans are nowhere near ready for what's going to happen. If you have the ability to leave the country, now is the time to take advantage of that.
