I recently had a conversation with my local PP protester. He protests twice a week at two local clinics. He was quite troubled by my decision to get sterilized (which I have now completed and am currently recovering from!) His reaction to my choice made it very evident to me that these people are not bothered by abortion because it is "morally wrong" or "killing a baby". They are against it because it stops pregnancy and lets women opt out of motherhood. It's not enough to just not have an abortion, they don't want you to do anything that stands in the way of you becoming a mother. They legitimately don't think being child-free is a valid choice for women, unless of course you're naturally sterile because in that case it's "god's plan". It was incredibly eye-opening for me.
Most abortion clinics are in blue states. Maybe those who commit violent acts at clinics will not face federal prosecution, but state laws still apply, and should be vigorously enforced. Contact the offices of your state AG to encourage them to arrest and prosecute those who engage in illegal activities at clinics.
I suspect that colleges in anti-choice states are seeing their enrollments go down. For instance I live in Iowa with its heartbeat bill that bans abortion two weeks after a missed period. Next door are two states, Minnesota and Illinois, without such draconian bans. Where would a young woman go? Especially when choosing between Grinnell in Iowa and Carlton and Macalester College, both in Minnesota. Students quite frequently choose to stay in the state they got their degree in — stay goodbye to the best of the best Iowa!
The Republicans sinister master plan seems to be to pass voting restrictions so that the midterm elections and indeed no other election can unseat them. They will eliminate the filibuster in order to succeed.
So, I used an article regarding the "Contraception begins at Erection" to discuss in my Critical Thinking Class (https://www.audacy.com/wwjnewsradio/news/national/mississippi-lawmaker-proposes-life-begins-at-erection-bill). My students thought it was hilarious! And also, very interesting use of "humor" to expose some s**t. We had a great discussion - so, sometimes humor can be a way to access more difficult topics. But I do understand your reticence about the Bill being silly.
These bills saying abortion is murder is legislative rape. These bills are knives pressed up against the necks of women by stupid white men to force themselves on the women of their state. In the coming years, hell is going to get even fuller than it always has been.
contraception begins at erection isn't just a cute way to say men's bodies aren't monitored the women's are - it's also a stark reminder that family planning is not just a woman thing, and men have responsibilities that begin at the SAME TIME a woman's does.
I feel like going to Idaho and telling them I had an illegal abortion 55 years ago. If they lock up anyone then they better lock me up. I think everyone who has ever had an abortion should turn themselves in. The jails can't hold the millions of us who have made the healthiest decision we've had to make in our lives.
Yep, I did too! 30ish years ago. Better come for me, too.
PS: It's not a crime, so it will be a cold day in hell before I'd give those people that pleasure...Although it is plain to see that they badly need pleasure. They spend all their time wound up and obsessed with women's bodies.
I agree with your take on the "Erection Act." It's a clever thing to say, perhaps, in a debate, as a way to illustrate the hypocrisy and double standards in anti-abortion laws. But it is not the functional equivalent of these anti-abortion laws, and how they deny fundamental rights to women. We need to focus resources and efforts on trying to stop these anti-choice laws and the criminalization of abortion, and on getting information out to everyone about how safely to exercise their reproductive rights, and how to access abortion services safely.
I am alright with the Erection act bills. Make the people explain why it is okay for Elon Musk and his technobrats to spill their seed while they peruse
It's pretty ironic that a state that wants to kill women, by not providing proper medical standard of care, wants to kill the same women for using their right to bodily autonomy. And by ironic, I actually mean predictable.

Thank you for everything you do.

I'm with Pohuskey. I also had a hysterectomy this year soley to avoid all this nonsense.
This is terrorism and we need to start calling it that.

I have no words today, except my usual: FIGHT THESE PEOPLE. Do not let them scare you or reduce the quality of life you have.
We actually have a life, much more than those morally bankrupt nosy people.

Absolutely!
Love the ProPublica resource. Thank you for sharing that.

internet porn sites. Embarrass them.
These people aren't anti-abortion. They are anti-choice and forced birth.
Don't forget anti-consent.
