All they know is fear, hate, and cheating.

I worked the Dem booth at our local county fair last weekend. I live in the most conservative county in Montana. Some guy came by clearly triggered by our banner "Women's Rights are Human Rights". At one point in the discussion (that quickly turned very heated) he stated "Women don't own their body, the baby owns the body". With his wife whole heartedly agreeing. And there you have it. In my county many believe that as soon as an egg is fertilized, you are no longer an autonomous being.

Hope this doesn't violate TOS (on the "does Macy's tell Gimbels?" principle, but the Abortion Access Front is launching its Operation Save Abortion ballot initiative edition on October 8. The trianing session trains people on how to help support the ballot measures in Nebraska, South Dakota, Montana, Maryland, Nevada, Missouri, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, and Florida. The program includes a tool kit for educating voters about ballot initiatives, Project 2025, and the Comstock Act. Registration ends October 7th just before midnight Eastern time: https://www.aafront.org/operation-save-abortion/?emci=34344fa9-fa66-ef11-991a-6045bdd9e096&emdi=52ec0a3b-e66e-ef11-991a-6045bdd9e096&ceid=1460628. (Apologies if the link doesn't work, I got the info because I'm on the AAF mailing list, info@aaf.org.)

AAF also has seven panels available on the aaf.org site and its YouTube channel: reproductive justice; clinic support; patient support; legislative advocacy; direct action; a wrap-up with Q&A; and a mifepristone case study.

Hi all - there is a terrific new explainer video out by Vox about the stakes of the national election in think you all will want to see and share! https://youtu.be/3tz2BUuzTmE?si=b04N9_gXLv6GMsPv Makes very clear the role that the fed government plays in access (as opposed to the states) in a digestible quick format!3

I ordered! Looking forward to reading and will review.

This is one of those days that I think,” Where is all this going?”

I read the report on medical care post Dobbs. I am a retired RN who can remember a time when to see these things was unthinkable. It is entirely predictable now, do these anti abortion legislators not know? Do they not care?

There’s a special place in hell for them.

We need to vote the aholes out in November!!!!

I implore you all to leave 5 star reviews, even if you don’t write much about Jessica’s book. You could simply write - A must read for understanding the intricacies of how laws affect all women’s reproductive healthcare. Reviews & stars do help with book promotion. It will definitely help Jessica and we should all be willing to do that for her.

Jessica - do another promotion thread please, with all the places selling your book, that you are aware.

Good luck! Market it everyday on every platform. 😉

I listed the book as “read” on Goodreads and write a review stating why I posted because of bogus reviews, that I have the book on hold at my library, and will write a real review at that time, hoping that real reviews will be up by then! A nut is wandering around on that site asking positive reviewers why they condone murder fyi.

Report them

I was thinking of ignoring them, since I would think that the victims would be the only ones who could report them.

I believe that to leave a review on Amazon, one must purchase the book from that platform.

No you can leave a review on Amazon, unless policy has changed recently. You can even use an alias for your name.

Here are some "fun" facts about Jay Ashcroft's father, former U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft. Whole serving as Attorney General, John Ashcroft spent federal money buying CURTAINS to cover the semi-nude female statue in the Department of Justice 's Great Hall- because, ya know all those male attorneys exposed to those metal breast's might have had impure thoughts!

Outing myself as a former career employee at DOJ. I survived Ed Meese, Richard Thornburgh(who exhorted DOJ employees to consider adoption as an option), Ashcroft, and the lamentable Alberto Gonzalez. I also experienced thr blatant attempts to politicize the Department under George W. Bush, thwarted by our Inspector General.

Jay Ashcroft is another cankered apple who didn't fall far from the family tree-another moralistic puritan determined to impose his personal creed on all of us.

And, the "sainted" Thomas More of A Man for All Seasons? Catholic and anti-Tudor propaganda, as well as serving a talented playwright's dramatic purposes. More was another rigid ideologue who was more (pun intended ) than willing to stamp out what he deemed heresy.

I think you’d be better off if none of us gave a positive review, which would result in an overall average review, and just let the bad reviews speak for themselves, like this one did. You could emphasize in your media publicity how your book is hitting a nerve with the forced birth crowd, and wear your “1” as a badge of honor

That one-star review sent me over the edge. The forced birthers use the most facile and cult-like logic. Looking forward to reading your book, Jessica, and when I do I will happily leave a review. And now let me scream into an abyss. God help us get to November and please please please let us win.

Why isn't the federal government under Biden investigating these actions? Isn't that what it's for? Like they did to protect voters in the 50s and 60s. Finally doing something to defend their rights after 100 years of doing nothing?

I wonder about this every day. Garland has got to go when Harris wins. We need someone fierce in the AG position (or at least awake!)

I think a bunch of book preorders followed by a bunch of 5star reviews will put things right.

Ima go preorder right now!

This is enraging. What they're doing in Missouri and Florida, etc. This USA is no longer a democracy. States of autocracy. We have to fight back. We shouldn't have to. How did things get this bad?

Expand full comment

How did things get this bad? A few thoughts: As someone who came of age before Roe and remember fers that SCOTUS decision, I think that the pro-chouce community breathed a long sigh of relief, and relaxed.

The anti-choice movement NEVER stopped.

Consider that even liberals have not been comfortable with defending abortion care as health care-they are more willing to defend "worthy" abortions-rape, fetal anomalies. Why is it so hard to support ant woman's right to decide for herself, for ANY reason, to have an abortion?

I am not sure that anyone could have foreseen the incredible level of misogyny and utter contempt for women that we are now seeing in these cruel abortion bans.

Expand full comment

Actually, the anti-choice movement did take a breather for a while.

It was only when Phyllis Schlafly's overweening ambition and drive for attention and power led to a conscious decision to set up a cynical pro-life campaign, as part of an assault on all of our rights. Catholics and Evangelists had no particular problem with abortion or the pill before that. They merrily had their own abortions, more often than not, quietly and on the side. They continue to do so. Hypocrites.

It was women who did this to women, never forget that. Opportunistic women who knew they could never claim any power at all without kowtowing to the men's desires. So, they happily sold out their sisters and defied common sense. May they all rot in hell.

"Catholics and Evangelists had no particular problem with abortion or the pill before that." Not true. The Catholic Church absolutely forbids not only any kind of abortion, but any kind of artificial birth control as well, except for the so called rhythm method. It also forbids women in any kind of positions of spiritual authority and none of the men who hold these positions any kind of sexual activity at all, including marrying.

Expand full comment

I know plenty of Catholics who quietly had abortions anyhow. Rules for thee, none for me—as long as it is done quietly. Catholic Church can forbid all it wants, but there are enough reasons for Catholics to be gloriously hypocritical on this subject. It was when these groups decided to press forward and use it as a political bludgeon that they crossed the line.
