So very very sad. I think she probably knew it was time to go .... and avoid witnessing the erasure of all she had tirelessley worked for over the past decades. American women have lost a true champion. :-( Too bad they didn't sufficiently appreciate her actions on their behalf.

This was lovely, Jess. I’m just gutted. There is no one like Cecile.

To lose her and my mentor who was a good trouble maker and pilgrim for peaceful protests using JOY as her act of defiance, the synchronicity of both of them leaving on MLK Jr. Day is an indication that we have some powerful An-SISTERS standing guard on our behalves. Candle is burning for both of them. 🙏🏻🌟🕯️

Thank you for sharing this. A day full of loss.

I didn't know, because I've been boycotting news and social media today. A friend emailed the link to this tribute.

Second time today that I've had tears in my eyes; the first time was while listening to Ani DiFranco sing "Unprecedented Sh!t."

Thank you, Jessica, for this tribute to Cecile. I love that you taught/reminded us that energy doesn't die. We are so fortunate to have had such a stellar role model.

Those last couple of lines brought tears to my eyes. May I be able to say at the end of my life I did everything I could.

It was stunning and strangely synchronistic she passed on inauguration day. Like I want to say a thousand thank you's - and "I don't blame you." it's too much for all of us.

Thank you for this. I was so saddened to see the headline today of her passing. What a force. What a light.

I grew up in Texas when Ann Richards was governor, can you even imagine a Democrat (and a woman no less) as governor of Texas today???? Cecile was a few years older than I, but I always felt a sisterhood of sorts. This was a model of Texas womanhood I could get behind. I was always so proud of her moves nationally and her leadership of PP. Loudly, proudly pro-choice and did her darnedest to educate that abortion is health care. Such a sad day.

God’s Grace took Cecile so she didn’t have to witness or be subjected to the hatred of Trump 2 and the Maggots. Cecile was a heroine to millions. ❤️

Those were my thoughts also. The combined impact is staggering. A bright light was extinguished. Perhaps she will guide us from beyond.
