What really enrages me is that they’re blaming her for leaving the dead fetus in the toilet like she should’ve known what to look for in a bloody mess while in shock and pain. If they’re so upset that the fetus wasn’t taken care of, maybe they should have done something when she was at the hospital asking for help.

Another nurse here, and a nurse-educator. It both makes me heartsick and furious to read this.

Healthcare in this country is so broken, ob/gyn nurses can be even more bitter and cruel than the jaded ED nurses* and organized religion can twist and prevent their own core messages. Not to mention that these Catholic hospitals are chasing the almighty dollar same as the for profit ones.

I hope Brittany prevails and there is more of this kind of fighting back.

The racism in healthcare is egregious-I work at a Tribal clinic and how my patients are treated at local hospitals- like everyone is just a drunken Indian. The IOM published "Unequal Treatment" in 2004 and things have not improved by much.

*no, not all, but the circumstances and subculture can create some ugly attitudes and behaviors.

This is good news because healthcare workers need to be put on immediate notice that falsification of medical records is a CRIME. It also shows that bias is so incredibly deep in people that it may cloud normal judgement due to religious beliefs. It is sad to think how easily this situation could play out for any miscarrying woman in any hospital who has the misfortune of getting a zealot for a caregiver.

God bless Cory Booker who asked AG Bondi at her hearing if she would support the FDA’s protection of mifepristone. Bondi said she wasn’t aware that mifepristone was under threat. 🙄 She said she would have to look into it. She said she’s personally “pro-life” but that wouldn’t affect her decision. Right.

Get your mifepristone while you can!

Does anyone know if Ms Watts has a Go Fund Me or other money raising effort going on? I am impressed with her bravery and would like to make a donation towards the cost of her lawsuit.

I wish every woman who experiences pregnancy injustice would sue. If everyone who experienced this type of cruelty would sue hospitals, maybe the system would change.

“Ms. Watts' lawsuit is the exactly right response”

Only because beating them to death with a baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire is against the law.

Before I even read Jessica's words, I said "good for her". I added "get those fuckers". I hope the OBGYN who was arrested in her home in front of her young son because she provided abortion care to a child rape victim sues as well.

Hearing what these people did and said to Ms. Watts reminded me of that other incident because when the OBGYN reported the abortion, as she was supposed by law, where in this case there was zero ambiguity, she was treated with derision and disgust and they called law enforcement.

Policing has a toxic masculinity problem, it's not a shock to me that they have acted in collusion to punish women. Nobody has to call you a callous whore when it's clearly implied.

This is disgusting and outrageous. My heart goes out to Ms Watts. I hope she gets millions of dollars out of these fake Christians.

YESSSSSSSS! Those nurses will be reported to their state Nursing Board, and their licenses to practice nursing will be in jeopardy. We'll see what happens. I really really hope so, what they did was disgusting, they deserve to face accountability, and they do not need to be practicing nursing. There was nothing to report on Ms. Watts, and they were not required to report her condition. Not to mention LIES about her that resulted in criminal charges that Ms. Watts did NOT deserve. I'm a nurse, so this is absolutely personal. Throw the book at them!

You made my day! I’m so glad she is suing—and I hope others who are harmed by abortion bans will sue as well. The way to make doctors, nurses and hospitals think twice about denying care is to make it a risk management issue for them and make them pay big bucks, since it appears to be too much to ask them to simply care about the welfare of their patients. I understand Ms. Watts has raised enough money to support her lawsuit—hopefully she will be awarded attorneys fees as well—but please keep us posted if she needs anything from us. Also, keep us posted on the progress of this lawsuit.

I hope Ms. Watts wins big money, and shines a light on this travesty of religious nurses, and cops conspiring against people who have done nothing wrong.

This really hits home for me. I grew up in the Warren area and am familiar with St. Joes. I am also a nurse and am thoroughly disgusted that people in my profession could be so callus, dishonest and racist. Luckily there is another hospital in Warren, Trumbull Memorial, that can serve the needs of people in this area. While Trumbull has recently been struggling, I hope the people of Trumbull County will take their business to TMH and boycott the Catholic hospital who showed no compassion and lied about a patient in their care.

It’s crazy to me that in the 70’s it was Catholic priests helping women attain abortions & today it’s Catholic hospitals denying miscarriage care. At least women have real access to $ to fight back now and there are enlightened lawyers willing to stand with them. But we have a long road ahead & it will take many brave women to fight these injustices.

I hope that Moschell, Carrino and Carney understand that they will testify or br deposed under oath, and that they may well face perjury charges for their disgraceful actions.

They should all be fired, and jailed for lying.
