trump Republicans' and Fox's latest ruse is that AZ has a Dem governor and DEM AG and they need to correct this. Don't fall for it (CNN's Brianna Keller did a good segment on it). AZ has a Republican majority legislature which blocked a bill to correct this travesty.

Everyone needs to see elected officials praying IN TONGUES on the floor of the AZ senate. What could clearer evidence that the First Amendment is being murdered by the forced birth movement? Please share on other sites!

NBC reporter's tweet below. Let us prove them wrong and give Biden the House and the Senate in November. Without all three, the current nightmare continues and abortion rights won't be reinstated, as I keep harping. Talk to people you know about what is required to happen in this election to right the ship. In previous elections, Democrats cleaned up after Republicans but this time cleaning up after trump is a job for everyone. And, for everyone's sake, send MTG packing home, she is an unAmerican Russian stooge.

A side benefit to the trifecta, hopefully Biden expands the SCOTUS and stops the corrupt reign of Alito/Thomas and their minions; hopefully voting rights will pass and gerrymandering effect will be reduced.

NEW —> 'Major hurdles': The reality check behind Biden's big abortion promise

He'll need a Democratic trifecta

+ Hill majorities to pass an abortion rights bill

+ 50 Senate votes to pierce the filibuster

A steep climb

A dear friend sent me a great in-depth article by Heather Cox Richardson on 4/9/24 about the AZ law. You won’t believe all the other crap in this arcane irrelevant 1864 law. Understanding how this law fits into the historical context of AZ in 1864 is fascinating and makes a 2024 enforcement of it all the more alarming. Heather’s substack is called « Letters from an American. » Anyway, I highly recommend reading this article if you can. I also now wonder if she has written a piece on the Comstock Act. If anyone knows, let me know, thanks!

JESSICA!! so excited that you have a book coming out!

Question — will you be the person doing the reading if one gets the audible-type version? ❤️❤️

Does anyone know if this applies to even DNCs for non-viable (no “heartbeat”) pregnancies?

American historian Heather Cox Richardson provides context for Arizona's 1864 law:

"So, in 1864, a legislature of 27 white men created a body of laws that discriminated against Black people and people of color and considered girls as young as ten able to consent to sex, and they adopted a body of criminal laws written by one single man."

"And in 2024, one of those laws is back in force in Arizona."

It's absurd.

Arizona’s Governor and State Attorney General should ignore the ruling. Enough is Enough - we have a justice system that is not working. If a President can not be prosecuted in a timely manner (before the next election) for trying to overturn the last election - then it’s time to ignore the courts when the courts strip Americans of their long standing constitutional rights.

The courts aren’t playing fair - so to hell with them.

Two of those Federal Supreme Court nominees lie to the Senate about respecting “precedence”. Barrett hedged but didn’t say that she wouldn’t respect it. The hearings were televised. Roe was overturned because the judges lied. Enough is Enough - lies are killing Americans.

We don’t count so why should we obey the law

It's appalling. And to have no exceptions for rape. I'd not care about the law either.

It's all about power. That's it. There's no integrity, no logical governing philosophy, no caring about us, that's for sure. Gee... thanks for allowing an exception for *our lives* !

Blood boils.

“Procure the miscarriage.” The hatred for women is miles deep.

Expand full comment

That language is terrifying. By using miscarriage, we can assume that the next outrage will be to haul more women who are distraught from having a miscarriage or stillbirth before a jury to determine whether it was deliberate or “natural” God help these pregnant women.

Maybe the good news here, is that women (who don't read Jessica's CRITICALLY IMPORTANT Substack) will realize how serious and critical this is.

It's a stab in the heart to know that the GOP truly doesn't give a shit about ANY women.

Abortion legalization will be on the ballot in AZ, and it will certainly mobilize AZ women.

The GOP has stepped in it, and they'll get shellacked.
