When I read "wanting to be a good Dad" horseshit, I literally started screaming. "Tone deaf" doesn't cover it at all.

When my kids were still in high school, there was a vicious ice storm that knocked our power out for nearly a week. We were stupidly fortunate to nab the last room in a shitty hotel that still had power and would let us bring our pets. We were stupidly fortunate to have enough available credit to afford five days in a run-down hotel at $50 a night, two adults, two teens, a dog, and two cats, crammed into two lumpy double beds with scratchy sheets and thin blankets.

But sure, to be a "good parent", you have to be able to fuck off to a luxury resort at a moment's notice. The rest of us should be so ashamed of ourselves.

Fuck him.

Periodically there are rumblings of Texas seceding from the nation. If it weren't for the children who deserve better parents than they have I'd actively cheer on the departure. Actually Texas children would be better off if taken out and placed in foster or adoptive homes as far as possible from a state that operates as if run by dimwitted teenagers with too damned much testosterone.

Cruz is done. He didn't have much of a chance to rise any higher anyway, since he seems to be loathed as much by his Republican as by his Democratic colleagues.

So, yes, in these times almost anyone in office can get away with anything, but not if you're deeply unpopular to start with.

It is still a sad indictment of the state of US politics that such a leaky bucket of sick could ever get elected as a dog catcher.

It's also a crappy thing to do to kids who are old enough to be aware of what's happening but not old enough to really understand it. My kids are one year older and they feel tremendous guilt when I'm in a bad mood because #reasons that have NOTHING to do with them. Just next-level bad parenting, bad leadership (blaming less-powerful others), and more. And yes, galling. So, so galling.

Unfortunately, I doubt it will hurt Cruz much with the GOP base, but just an astonishing choice for him to make considering how badly he wants to be President. It’s as if conservative entitlement causes actual brain damage.

And what do you say about a man who shifts the responsibility for his colossal misjudgment onto HIS OWN CHILDREN? Although I guess it shouldn’t be surprising coming from a man who also sucked up to the guy who insulted his wife.

It's funny that reps like Cruz spend so much capital calling their enemies "elitist" and then fly to another country to stay at a fancy resort at the drop of a hat cause they're "freezing". And yet, like you, I'm jaded enough to know the right wing does not care. As long as Cruz hates the people they hate they'll give him a pass.

It might just be "elitist" if you are flying to a resort that costs $300-$500/night. Isn't it all just ridiculous?

The other thing about this that’s so enraging (and there are SO, SO many) is that for a guy who goes on and on about how entitled others are, he’s the poster boy for teaching them to be entitled and self centered! It’s the perfect opportunity for a teachable moment on so many levels. Instead, it’s “Pack yer bags, kids! Mom found us a vacay in Cancun!” I already find Cruz to be one of the most offensive people in politics; glad to see he’s done nothing to dissuade me of that view.

well, the fact is that there were other people getting on that plane, and there have been lots of people taking vacations during COVID (as evidenced through their annoying vacation pics). So, there are probably plenty of people who won't find fault with him. :/

Just yes, JV. Yes.
