I hope there is an initiative to set the record straight in Missouri! Ugh, this newsletter makes my blood boil. But thank you.

Channeling Flo Kennedy here: if men could get pregnant, there would be abortion clinics on every corner, with beer and chips; people handing out "two for one" coupons in front of every store; and men would brag about it "can't play basketball today, gotta go get an abortion." Is this what's meant by "recreational abortion"?

Mitch is right. 'Views about this issue at the state level vary depending where you are.' They vary from: majorities being in favor of reproductive rights and access to reproductive health care, to: overwhelming majorities being in favor of reproductive rights and access to reproductive health care. And, on whether the voters are gullible enough to let Mitch's party anywhere near sources of power. F*cking turd.

Regarding the Republican states trying to "streamline" adoption - - Tennessee has nearly 9,000 kids in foster care that they can't even take care of. And of those kids, 35% of them get moved multiple times and are in temporary foster care, it is one of the most unstable states for foster care program.

How about Tennessee take care of these kids first before we force more kids to give birth?

Nope..... they like to do things backwards down here. Republicans do not care about children, they don't care if they are creating more neglect, more abuse, more future screwed up adults with emotional and mental health issues adults.

How else will they get more abused people who will blindly go to their church and vote republican?

Such an unfortunate statement, Natalie, and so very true.

I hate to be a cynic, but they have made their desire to sell off all the babies they force to be born, through their "Betsy De Vos approved" christian adoption agencies, which many states have let them take over entirely. There was a court case where a Jewish couple was suing them because they weren't christian so they couldn't adopt there. And they are state run agencies.

Alabama legislatures are such fucking idiots to let parents opt their children out of safe sex class, and why would any parent do that ? These male politicians want teenage girls to be pregnant, it will ensure that they live a life of poverty so that they are easier to control. This problem of not wanting to provide proper sex education is also directly tied back to religious extremism.

To illustrate how inept , regressive and irresponsible Republican-led states are when it comes to teenage pregnancy: from the cdc, teen pregnancy per 1,000 females from age 15 to 19:

Arkansas. 26.5

Mississippi 25.6

Louisiana 24.5

Oklahoma 24.1

Alabama 22.9

Kentucky 22.3

Tennessee 21.5

West Virginia 20.9

Texas 20.3

Conversely if we look at progressive Democratic lead States the numbers are less than half:

New Hampshire 5.4

Massachusetts 5.7

Vermont 6.4

Connecticut 7.1

Maine 7.8

Rhode Island 7.8

New Jersey 7.9

ALL of these should be 0!!

They also don't want children to learn they can say "no!" to people touching them inappropriately. "Good touch, bad touch" robs them of victims.

With all the trickery going on re: the ballot measures, I just have to have faith in the intelligence of the American people. So far I've had good reason to.

I wonder what Alabama's statistics say about the teen STI rates. Really care about their children's health, don't they.

I’m not a lawyer, but the Missouri situation sounds like defamation to me. What about a “cease and desist” letter?

“Anti-abortion groups are obsessed with the idea that women lie in order to get abortions.“

People tend to assume other people are like them. These groups lie constantly, which explains why they’re so suspicious of everybody else’s motives.

This is one of those "everything old is new again" things. Back in the late 60s/early 70s, women who wanted an abortion here in "liberal California" had to plead their case before a panel of (generally old white) physicians. I knew several women who went through this. The docs were obsessed with the idea that lying, undeserving women would manage to get an abortion. The same for women who had been raped: courts and juries and lawyers etc assumed that every woman who claimed that she had been raped was, by definition, a liar. I remember reading in about 1980 that only about ten percent of rapes were reported--because if you ended up testifying in court, you'd be asked what you were wearing, why were you in that place, and so on.

Got my WaPo “The 7” summary today and saw

“6. Birthrates in the U.S. hit a historic low last year.

The numbers: Just under 3.6 million babies were born in 2023, CDC data show. That’s 2% less than in 2022, and marks a return to the pre-pandemic downward trend.

What’s happening? Student debt and high housing costs may influence younger generations’ decisions not to have kids, experts say. Teen birthrates also hit record lows.”

And yeah, WaPo, it couldn’t possibly be anything related to reproductive health going to shit. /s

(In fairness to WaPo the tail end of the full article included a quote by one expert who suggested that recent court rulings could have something to do with it, it just wasn’t in the summary. And to that I say, seriously WaPo? 👀)

The trumpublicans are like pit bulls. They have us by the neck and they won’t let go.

I sent a video to my Indian friends who live in Netherlands today. It was a long series of short takes on pastors and others (including Bannon), spewing their hatred for women. In short, many white men have figured out the cause of all their perceived social problems…women.

Several of the speakers called us witches and said we should return to the days of public burnings at the stake. In unison they decreed that all our societal issues arose after giving women the right to vote, and therefore the right must no longer exist.

Many of them agreed that women should never wear pants. Dresses only. And the unanimous voices believe teenage girls should be married and “pump out” as many children as possible.

“They don’t obey us anymore” was a common theme, and they realize women must again be taught to obey their husbands. Women should be offered a kitchen and bedroom, in that order.

They will remove every right we have if they regain power. Christofascism is the plan, and Project 2025 is the blueprint.

It's really depressing to live in a country where a fourth of the population can tell the rest of us what to do. We need to vote out the fucking goddamn republican politicians.
