You’re entirely welcome. You are brave soldiers over there in that paradise of patriarchy. In many ways America is now a patchwork country where once state does things one way and another does them differently. Then we wonder why the country is so divided. We need a single identity with traditions and customs that cohabit in peace. I’ll shut up now. Thanks for carrying the torch.
I fucking despise the christo- fascists on the scotus . They are the direct reason for the absolute cruelty of republican politicians' bans . Goddamn them. Women and the people who love us should understand that this is the most important reason to vote against republican politicians for several years until the prochoice citizens can enshrine abortion rights in all states . A woman's right to make all her own bodily decisions will ensure that women have EQUAL rights with men. I have to end with SCREW YOU, RIGHT-WING SCOTUS for your cruel treatment of half the population of the U.S .
We don’t even have consent laws, which is one reason why it’s so hard to help victims of sexual assault. Consent would also help protect against financial fraud, and help with inequality. Tell your elected officials we need an official definition of consent-laws have been proposed. The law would it illegal to misrepresent a petition to get a signature on it.
How about offering trips to France where access to safe abortion is now part of the constitution ? Hop on a plane. Travel 8 hrs to Paris. Get your abortion at a hospital , have lunch on a terrace overlooking the Seine. Evening flight takes you home - minus the fœtus and in perfect health. Think about it. Reasonably-priced , safe abortion performed in a hospital - plus a quick trip to Paris. Am curious to know if such a simple solution appeals to women who live in places where abortion is illegal.
I urge you to keep on fighting for universal abortion in the US. Meanwhile, France is a good place for people who are desperate to get abortions. Does being pregnant make you medically unstable? I'm not sure about that. Cheers, Suzanne White
We will keep fighting for universal access-thanks!
I was referring to cases when abortion is necessary because the mother’s life is threatened by her health problems during pregnancy or she is bleeding or becoming septic due to a miscarriage.
Apologies, I was not clear. The plan you proposed won’t work for a medically unstable patient, which is a significant portion of the population being denied care under abortion bans. France is lovely though. I’m afraid we have to deal with reality here by making necessary life-saving care legal. The interesting issue here to me is that clearly a significant portion of our population either sincerely thinks a dead fetus has more value than a living woman and that we should let her die rather than give her the least invasive treatment OR they are impenetrably propagandized and uneducated.
Jessica Piper was a teacher for 16 years until she decided to run for office as a Democrat in red Missouri (sadly, she did not win). On her substack, she has neatly tied up in a bow what seem to be disparate threads: the attack on public education, removing protections for children at work, the loss of bodily autonomy with regard to reproduction:
"I could talk for years on the attack on working-class folks in these red states, and honestly I have. For years. It’s class warfare at its base and it’s so hard to show the folks in my community the plot, but here it is: marginalized and oppressed groups are supposed to stay that way by the creation of a permanent underclass."
"Deny children an education unless their parents can pay for it. Create laws that allow corporations to hire children. Take away bodily autonomy and there you have it…a class of billionaires ruling over the rest of us who are too tired and too uneducated to do better or know better."
From the article, apparently right wing fascist who are extremely misogynistic. The article also mentions "Italy is increasingly difficult due to the high number of gynaecologists who refuse to terminate pregnancies for moral or religious reasons. According to health ministry data from 2021, about 63% of gynaecologists refuse to perform the procedure.
Unfortunately, I don't remember the source of the article so... I think that I remember that in general, women were screwed as they often are pretty much everywhere.
I've had similar meditations on the same situation in Russia, except I thought I understood that under the USSR, lots of women found themselves in the medical profession and so they might be better represented. A better question to pose might be, "By nation, how well are women represented in the medical professions?"
Kloss and her husband have been public about their liberal values and disagreements with his family and say they are proud democrats and support progressive causes. I know I would not want to be judged based on many of my and my husband’s family members.

Thank you for your work. Reposting on my Paschen For Senate page on FBook.

Not if medically unstable.

If what is medically unstable?

That’s it.
There needs to be a defamation lawsuit in Missouri against the anti abortionists for their egregious lies....
Meanwhile, outside the U.S… saw this disappointing news out of Italy: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/apr/16/italy-passes-measures-to-allow-anti-abortion-activists-to-enter-abortion-clinics
FFS why?

How well are women represented in the medical profession in Italy? Or, more to the point, how well are women represented in any profession in Italy?
Unfortunately, I don't remember the source of the article so... I think that I remember that in general, women were screwed as they often are pretty much everywhere.
I just found the article. It doesn't break it down.

Thanks Joe. Fucking fascists love to force birth.
Please don't stop complaining, Jessica!
So you know Karlie Kloss is Jared & Vanky’s sister in law, right?
Kloss and her husband have been public about their liberal values and disagreements with his family and say they are proud democrats and support progressive causes. I know I would not want to be judged based on many of my and my husband’s family members.
No, I didn't know that. Apparently she is married to Jared's brother. Yuk..She is doing the right thing though.

This is a good link. I don't know whether to read Handmaids Tale or watch the series... I haven't done either yet. Just frightening.
Canada here we come.
