Directly tied to abortion - why aren't Dems at state & national level not pushing to deregulate birth control to be sold OTC and on demand ? Everyone knows it's safe. Female Republican politicians use birth control pills.

Any female should be able to walk into any clinic or hospital to request the shot or implant.... any female should be able to go into a drugstore and get birth control pills.

Nothing comes between a man and his reproductive health care... he can get viagra on line with no visit to doctor or proof of ED.

Now we know the R's would not support deregulating birth control.......and that is what the country needs to witness.... they don't want abortion and they won't deregulate birth control....that is proof of the true dark agenda. The Dems are not doing enough for women in my opinion .....they must amp up the fight. Even if Biden wins the white house, what exactly are they going to do in the next 4 years, where is their strategy, what is the road map....how will they stop the war on women. If Biden is not willing to use executive orders, then the next 4 years won't be any different than these last 4 years, with a clusterfuck Congress.

People here know I complain about media all the time.

Here is one more bit of evidence from the prime suspect and the most unserious person in the preeminent newspaper in the world:

Maggie Haberman

@maggieNYT

It raises the question - if Trump loses, does he disappear or attempt at running in 2028 (even if he doesn’t do it) to preserve a lock on the party

I worry about this too, when will this crazy man fuck off forever. Do we have to wait for him to die? Will the Supreme Court rule against him on 14th amendment? By right they should because they claim to be so textual, but you can't trust five of them. When will we be free of him.

I share your frustration. Even if he kicks the bucket (or that monster Alito or Thomas), I think the GOP is completely gone off the rails, filled with corruption and fraud/grift. It will take decades to undo the damage they have done to the country and it is far from over. Well, if SCOTUS based on the 14th amendment says he can't run, then what? Haley or any other R would be equally bad. Looks like none of the court cases will be adjudicated before the election (except may be Bragg's in NY). We are living in historical times, that is the only thing that is certain.

Oral arguments on this to SCOTUS begin Thursday this week. Supposedly they have committed to a "quick" turnaround. But 5 of them are so completely corrupt, they have probably already made up their mind with some fake ruling that allows him to stay on the ballot - or, they will simply sidestep it. The 5 of them do not care, these are the 5- 6 worst and corrupt SCOTUS ever. This goes beyond overturning abortion........ gutting the voter Rights Act of 1965 which has been happening for the last 10 years, most significantly in 2013. And SCOTUS 2010 decision on Citizens Untied which has effectively corrupted a significant portion of politicians and justices, millions of dollars in dark money is coming into Republican PAC's and Super PAC's.

yes, you are so right and it is beyond abortion. Now imagine if we lose to trump or another R by quirk of fate meaning the 14th amendment, trump or that R will replace Alito and Thomas (oh they will boot them out just like trump did Kennedy) with much younger and more corrupt individuals and that 5-6 majority rule can go on for decades. So much is riding on this election.

The Washington attorney who was the largest campaign contributor to the Arizona anti-abortion anti-democracy campaign, Jack Connelly, spent $1 million of his own money to lose a 2012 race for state lawmaker. His incumbent competitor reportedly spent around $23,000. He lost by more than 14 points. Interesting that he is now anti-democracy.

Here is an alternate link to the Arizona Republic article, since the article appears to be entirely behind a pay wall.

"Republican Rep. Katelyn Kuttab said the amendment would allow abortions “right up until birth simply because a woman wanted one and a doctor felt it was necessary to honor that wish.” "

We need to bring back Buttigieg response for this extremely absurd argument (and it is a woman making it, shame on her!):

Do women like Kuttab really believe this statement or do they say it for sensationalism? It’s amazing to me how often it has been said with zero pushback. It is an absurd statement. It would be productive if someone in the legislative body (a Dem) would ask for a real life example from Kuttab or even a media source.

I agree and wonder why there have not been any challenges. In that Buttigieg video that slick Wallace makes it look like trimester abortions are made on choice and not medical conditions. There is another video of B with that Megan McCain who says it is infanticide, again trying to make it sound like the women are getting abortion just for kicks. No woman gets an abortion just for kicks at any point.

Another detail from CBS “Prosecutors told the jury the girl deserved a 40-year prison sentence”

So a young teenager — a kid — was forced against her will through pregnancy and birth and was going to be forced to be a parent and Texas recommended we should throw her in jail until she’s 55 years old.

WTF.

Wonder how her parents feel now.

The electorate really needs to pay closer attention to prosecutor races.

I feel for that 15 y/o girl who was desperate not to be pregnant and also to afraid to tell her parents that she was. This scenario happened before Roe was overturned but unfortunately will now be happening more often. Hiding a pregnancy from everyone for nine months is a difficult feat. Her parents did not notice that her body was changing or that she was wearing baggy clothes or that she was behaving differently? The denial of reality is strong. The girl did the worst possible thing out of desperation. She was more scared of her parents than she was of harming her baby just to make it all go away. This story is so sad on so many levels.

This story was especially poignant for me because I knew a couple of girls growing up who endured something similar.

So here I am again. Hammering Project 2025. They will gut the FACE Act by executive order if possible, on Day 1. If they capture Congress, they will repeal it. Because they see it as a restriction of their religious freedom and 1st Amendment rights. They specifically address the FACE Act in the document.

'Religious freedom' will kill us all.

Yeah. In today’s post, I highlight one way they will restrict our 1st amendment right to free speech while giving themselves more freedom to harass and intimidate using their religious beliefs. Up in the next hour.

I want to see the women demanding an abortion at nine months. Only a person who can’t get pregnant could dream that up. It’s crazy and no one ever challenges it. Prove it! Produce just one.

I an still flummoxed that 100 million women didn't vote out every gop in the last election. Hopefully this year...

What is also scary is how close the legislative delegate races were in VA last November. Too many people still do not understand what the consequences are of a 15 week ban or how difficult it is to be granted an abortion under exceptions guidelines. We need a 1 page pdf that simplifies this education for the masses.

I think you can see when a single political issue is separated from candidates such as legalization or abortion rights voters lean liberal (60-90%). That’s why ballot measures work.

That’s not how voting for candidates works though.
