The AP Stylebook's announcement attempting to end the use of "late-term abortion" (i.e., end-stage pregnancy complications that result in the death of the mother and/or baby) is too little, too late. Wish I could view it as good news. But I've been talking about, and raging about, the language ("pro-life", "late-term abortion", misinformation in visuals in the media/protests) of the anti-abortion disinformationists for four decades now, since middle school. Unfortunately, they won the language war. It will take generations to reeducate, reprogram, this misogynistic, regressive, and cruel society. I blame doctors, I blame writers, and I blame the media. They allowed Christian fundamentalists (some of the dumbest people one will ever encounter in this life) to capture the language.
- With a 51st Senator, executive branch nominations should move much faster. Don't know if this will get the administration to be bolder but it can't hurt
- It's pretty clear that the whole movement to restrict women's bodily autonomy depends on enough people believing lies about basic medical facts, biology, and science, such that the anti-choice position can be presented as possible or within reason, and the arguments received as legitimate. Shining truth on those lies is probably the best way to undermine the ability of the enemy, especially in the long term.
- Another long term goal is to get the word 'Christian' to have negative connotations, which are completely justifiable in a country where 'Christian' is so strongly associated with exercising racial and patriarchal power against the vulnerable. I'd rather be able to redefine the word than restrict its use, and I think this might be possible, with the younger generations especially.
This episode isn’t showing up in my Apple Podcasts feed - anyone else having that issue?
Hi Jessica - it's because I didn't do an audio version today! My voice gave out :(
I’m sorry to hear that! I hope you’re doing better today.
Love me some Lizzo!
So glad you included the info regarding Tommy Tuberville. As an Alabama resident I will write him a letter and pass the word.
Also Alabama has an active 1852 law that criminalizes anyone who aids or abets abortion as well.

Well done, high school student Maximillian O’Quin. And thank you for standing up for justice.
