Well. Kudos to the brave Texas woman who is suing the state to have her non-viable fetus, which also threatens her future fertility, aborted. She could go quietly to New Mexico or somewhere and get her abortion, but instead she is courageously going about this in a way that will (hopefully) benefit other women in the future. Whoever you are, I salute you.

Agreed. Thanks for saying what I was thinking as well. I second that salute 🥰

Why why why is Biden not using that same law and suing ALL extremist states? I agree- starting to feel he has abandoned women at a time of dire need. I feel like democracy is already over in many states. Good to see another brave woman in Texas going the law suit route. It might have been easier and faster to just fly to Colorado or Mexico but she didn't. And certainly deserves more than applause in her current condition. We must , must keep speaking out. Where are all the celebrities with big platforms and big money? Where are the sports figures? The film and music stars? Where is our VP?

I concur Marsha. Allegedly Biden is not doing well in the polls. Well start talking about abortion!! Speak up and out on the violence against women and pregnant people. Cmon!!!!

Great question! “ Where are all the celebrities with big platforms and big money? Where are the sports figures? The film and music stars?”

It’s so quiet it makes me sad. One would think a person in their family had benefited from abortion or miscarriage care. 🤷‍♀️

I know...! It's puzzling to me how women or anyone else can be detached from this. The abortion ban is effecting millions and millions of women of childbearing age. People in all states should be outraged- Biden and Harris need to stop talking about it as a threat to the rest of the country if Extremism wins in 2024 and start DOING something right now in the states where women are suffering. It seems to me their are several areas of the constitution that this is in violation of... if the administration can sue one state they can do that in all the others...

If Biden were being primaried (which I don’t advocate) he’d be talking about abortion for sure.

I just wanted to say that characterizing what is happening in Gaza right now as "war" is extremely misleading and untrue. One side doesn't even have a military against which Israel can declare war. They are on stage 9 of a genocide of Palestinian people and it is extremely important to characterize this correctly.

Thanks for your work and all you do!!

read the satirist Laura K (she's a Brit) she hits the nail on the head with this: "...Jake Tapper foolishly asked: “Where are they supposed to go?” when we all know the answer is it doesn’t matter. This is because Israel is doing everything it can to avoid casualties while it bombs civilians with 2,000lb missiles that America pays for instead of universal healthcare."

Urgency. If we don't bring it in 2024, whoever's at the top of the ticket, we'll be bringing it in 2025, under much much different, much darker, much more desperate circumstances. And there won't be any time or energy to waste on rage at the worthless fools who didn't bring it before :(

I wrote today that I’m most frustrated with Americans who can’t be bothered to care about these issues but are incensed over the obscene price of toilet paper and will vote accordingly. I don’t know how to reach the crowd who must fuck around to find out.

I don’t know how to reach these people, but Catherine Rampell has a column in the WaPo about how inflation is a worldwide phenom, the Biden admin has done things to curb it here, and it would be much worse under trump admin policies https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/12/05/biden-inflation-record-trump/

What cares most about toilet paper is the asshole. If Republicans win prices will go higher due to skyrocketing demand because of all the shit there'll be to clean up.

It's hard to put into words how angry it makes me that patients are having to go to court and beg to be allowed to seek care. Any time I consider easing up a little on those worthless fucks outside Planned Parenthood, thinking about this will definitely stiffen my resolve.

Infinite gratitude to Kate Cox. Sadly, we need more people like her. Many, many more. Sadly because what's best for the collective is not best for the individual, and vice versa. It would be in her personal best interest to take a trip out of state so that her daughter could go to her rest and that she could begin the process of grieving and moving forward. But of course it also serves the interest of the state for people to shut up and suffer. Instead she has chosen to stand up for herself, even as that's the harder way. And if we're ever going to beat this, any of this, that's what needs to be done.

15 days gestational age?! Gestational age is from the date when your latest period started. Youʻre probably not even pregnant yet at that point. So abortion would be legal before you ovulate or have sex, but not after?! Just another slap in the face and Fuck You to everyone with a uterus.

Yes I'll bet is was a typo, and then the evil ignorant fucks (who obviously slept through, and flunked biology) went all "yeah, why not?"

An *ignorant* slap in the face and Fuck You. (fify) Stupid proposed law obviously written by somebody who neither knows nor cares how female bodies work. Clearly meant to control, nothing more, as Jessica and many others have said for decades.

Your paragraphs on the advice from Democratic governors were powerful. We should all regularly email the Whitehouse and echo this over and over.

I am sending all of my energy and strength to Kate Cox as she goes through this horrific ordeal- just because she happens to live in the state of Texas. I truly appreciate the fact that she is calling Texas out in an incredibly public way as she pursues a legal remedy. But she should not have to. She should be able to have an abortion and then mourn the loss of her baby. Everyone needs to know the true ramifications when abortions are banned.

Just like with the ten year old rape victim, realistic people know that shit happens, and are horrified for the child, Republicans and forced-birthers (but, I repeat myself) deny the reality and would force her to give birth, anyway.

Religious conservatives would absolutely force Kate Cox to carry her pregnancy to term. They love telling each other pretty stories about how doctors can be wrong and women who have “kept faith and refused to give up on their babies” went on to have healthy babies. They think a woman should gladly risk her life on the slightest, most remote chance the doctor could be wrong. They are impervious to reality and facts on this issue. And I’ve heard one anti-abortion pundit - I can’t remember who - say we should stop performing prenatal tests for fetal anomalies because they lead women to consider abortion. She’s incredibly brave to file this suit instead of quietly traveling out of state. I fear she will get plenty of vitriol aimed at her but I hope she gets support as well.
