It may just be a typo but the more I consider it the more I think the Florida state legislature should pass an Act changing the name to Glorida. It is about as hare brained as anything else they spend their time on.

My most frequent typo replaces o with i. I’m not going to tell you what that has done to my hometown’s name on mailing lists, but it does make people titter.

I live in Massachusetts and it’s the only thing keeping me sane right now. This shit is crazy and at least I live here but this is not the front page news it should be.

The FL head of the Republican Party and his founder of Moms for Liberty wife being embroiled in a sex scandal is so on brand. Pay attention to what they condemn the loudest. It is always, always an admission of their hypocrisy. Keep fighting. Keep giving. Keep shining these spotlights.

The Zieglers are cartoon "Bond villains" they are so far-out there, she just finished a term on the school board here, nice to know they enjoy a good threesome. Too bad they are such hypocrites about others doing the same. Given their anti-gay wingnuttery. I'm hoping it damages them in their party as they wear Ron DeathSantis like a sock-puppet, he does anything they tell him to do.

From my local paper:

"Bridget Ziegler has become a star within the MAGA movement who was personally endorsed for her school board seat by Florida Governor and Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis, who also appointed her in March to the state board that oversees the special district previously overseen by Disney World prior to DeSantis's politically motivated feud with the entertainment company.

She is perhaps best known as the cofounder of the right-wing group Moms for Liberty, which has supported book bans in public schools across the country. Bridget Ziegler personally helped lay the groundwork for DeSantis' Florida Parental Rights In Education Act (known as the "Don't Say Gay" law) that disallows instruction on “sexual orientation or gender identity” in kindergarten through the third grade. She stood behind DeSantis as he signed the bill.

Following in the Moms For Liberty model, Ziegler has been a leading anti-trans activist and "critical race theory" opponent who has said her aim is to bring “religious values" into public schools that she claims are "indoctrination centers for the radical left."She is currently a salaried vice president at the conservative Leadership Institute, which recently opened an office in Sarasota. At the Institute she oversees a school board training program that she said “teaches trains moms and dads how to run for school board, win, and then govern!”

Christian Ziegler has longstanding ties to both DeSantis and former President Donald Trump, who called out Ziegler's name in a recent speech earlier this month during the "Florida Freedom Summit" in Kissimmee and said he was doing a "fantastic job." Ziegler, as the state's GOP chair, has remained officially neutral on the race.Fried stopped short of asking Bridget Ziegler to resign her school board and state seats, but noted the "hypocrisy" of the couple.

Quote from Nikki Fried:“As leaders in the Florida GOP and Moms for Liberty, the Zieglers have made a habit out of attacking anything they perceive as going against ‘family values’ — be it reproductive rights or the existence of LGBTQ+ Floridians," said Fried. "The level of hypocrisy in this situation is stunning.”

I just have one slight suggestion. How about instead of Bond villains, we go with evil 😈 fairy tale characters? 👻👾🤖

New Orleans Sewage and Water Board being screwed is sadly not a precursor for this idiocy. Funding for healthcare and insurance, public benefit projects of all sorts have been rejected by these zealots. In many cases, their own base gets fucked the most by their doing. Biden has gotten recent press for declaring the intent to eliminate lead in water pipes. How many stupid ass states will not accept funds will remain to be determined.

Lead in the pipes, sadly, lowers IQ, and affects developing brains. They probably think that will create more republican voters. This proves they don't care about anything.

Actually that is part of the plan. By some dystopian logic, they think making people poor, desperate and stupid will increase the chances of them voting for beneficial tax cuts.

I'm afraid you are right.

Yes, and it could have been prevented by using an anti-corrosive agent so the pipes wouldn't leach lead. But the emergency manager appointed by Snyder, wanted to save money so he wouldn't allow it.

I live about 50 miles se of Flint. My grandparents used to live and work there. I think they had well water? Coal shutes for sure. It's been nearly 60 years, so maybe lead wasn't an issue back then 🤔. Any which way, if I remember correctly, hardly anyone was charged with malfeasance of any kind. What was it that the s court recently issued a truly asshole decision about. Something like the surface water act. For those lucky enough to have an aquifer that is still usable it's truly fucked up.

Interesting thing about the Idaho EMTALA preemption case is that the state was ok with leaving the law enjoined (blocked) until the legislature belatedly jumped in, raising new arguments, and got an all-Trump appeals panel to unblock the law. Then the full court voted to reblock the law pending en banc rehearing and Idaho and the legislature ran to SCOTUS.
