After my conversation with the mayor of Lubbock when he followed my story about women carrying anencephalic fetuses having to drive themselves to New Mexico with a grumble about ‘exceptions,’ I’m convinced the best tactic is repeatedly story-telling the horror stories of third trimester tragedies. Does anyone know if there is a web site collecting these? I plan to start a page on TexasChristians.org, but it would be nice to have a one-stop source.
They are going to get so much worse before it gets better. Don't let them wear you down or dishearten you. (I'm not worried about Jessica and Grace; this is for the rest of you.) They intend to stun and paralyze us with our outrage. Keep telling these nightmare stories. Unfortunately, we can create our own tsunami of them, and they have an impact on voters. Don't give up hope. We are winning, even if it may not feel like it right now.
Yeah, the hard part is we're definitely winning on this issue, but Democrats seem to be polling quite badly on everything else. It's unclear how that reconciles or where the equilibrium is, and that's what's worrying.
I don't want to be another person who says, "Discount the polls." BUT pollsters aren't reaching Gen Z. Hell, they aren't reaching me or my husband, because they call our mobiles non-stop and we don't answer. I think it is going to be very difficult to get an accurate poll for this election. I'm not saying I'm not worried. Biden's squeamish embrace of abortion doesn't instill confidence, especially when the one message he and his team should be getting is "Abortion wins elections."
Yeah, the good thing is being almost a year away it's too early for the polls to have much predictive value. Every cycle is expected to be the one in which polling finally collapses, and it (somehow) hasn't yet. They were very good the last two midterms. When they've missed, in 2020 and to a lesser extent 2016, they've underestimated Republicans. The former was mostly covid, but there's also speculation that the voters singularly motivated by Trump may be hard to reach in polls (my theory is sociopaths are less likely to respond to polls, but anyway). When we get closer to the election there will be more to analyze. The guy I trust on data is Nate Silver, mostly because he takes care to be humble and say what we don't know, to explore the possibilities, and he admits when he's wrong. His politics are pretty close to mine, too. Anyway, it's too early but there's not really any reason to believe the polls are wrong, or more correctly any more wrong than average, and they speak to the challenges facing Democrats.
I thought one of Jessica’s posts said there was some case law keeping it from being applied to contraception, but I could be wrong. Then, again, there’s this Supreme Court...
Ashley Moody is sure a piece of work. Moody claims that the ‘viability’ standard would allow Moody claims that the ‘viability’ standard would allow doctors to determine whether or not a pregnancy is viable, and whether or not a pregnant person’s health is in danger.
Doctors being able to do medical stuff. Wow. It's not like they go to school to learn this stuff. Oh, wait. THEY DO! DUH. Those politicians, don't even seem to have even remedial medical or scientific knowledge. Let the people who have the knowledge be able to do the job that they were trained for. To put in terms that even they can understand, 'Let the doctors do doctoring' .
Thank you, Jessica, for addressing the Florida amendment again. I have a plea:
You know the expression “you can’t win if you don’t play”?
Well, now it’s “we can’t win if we don’t pay” !! That is, DONATE. The clock is ticking!
We have only 6 weeks left to finish gatherinig signatures in order to get the Amendment to Limit Government Interference with Abortion on the 2024 ballot. The coalition that runs the campaign, floridiansprotectingfreedom.com , urgently needs funds for paid petitioners to help us across the finish line.
Friends, this really is urgent. Our sisters, daughters, and grandchildren need to have reproductive choice. The severe six-week ban passed by Florida legislators may be enacted by the time you are having your holiday dinner. If we do not get this amendment on the 2024 ballot, so that voters can decide (and 70% do want this amendment), we will not have the opportunity again in Florida until 2026. That is a LOT of compulsory pregnancies and maternal health crises to endure.

Thank you very much,

As far as I am concerned we already made the biggest compromise in the history of the world when we decided to let these idiots have 'freedom of religion'. There's not a day that doesn't come back to bite us. If I were in charge they'd all be locked up or worse. Tired of being the fucking good guys.

That is an excellent idea. It's sad that we need to create a database of horror stories, but that's where we are in America 2023.

Any know if and how if the Comstock Act can be struck down or repealed?

It would take an act of Congress. And guess who would be opposed...

Love Jessica, that woman is so dedicated!
Love Pussy Riot, those women are so brave!
Putin has had them arrested at least a couple of times. They are heroes!
Between the 10ft-tall inflatable vulva and the costumes, not to mention the ideology, they rock 💥💨💣
