And this is what they are saying out loud, on the record, to journalists. Imagine what’s being said behind closed doors.

I CANT EVEN!

Ask any man who has sex with women that too!

I find it more than ironic that anti-abortion groups in Wisconsin are trying to get the state's medical licensing board to "enforce" the state's abortion ban that has been declared not to be an abortion ban at all.

If I recall correctly, the ruling by the Texas Supreme Court that halted pre-enforcement challenges to Texas's infamous "SB 8" was based on the principle that the Texas Medical Board (which was the only governmental authority that was mentioned directly as being able to deal out penalties to abortion providers under the law) did not have the authority to enforce the SB 8 law. (This meant that there wasn't anyone to sue, since the enforcement lay in the hands of the so-called vigilantes who hadn't hadn't taken any action yet.)

Of course, that was a different court in a different state, in a different pre-Dobbs time. It's just weird how the laws shake out sometimes.

I have no idea what the stance of the Wisconsin Medical Board is on abortion. I hope they tell the anti-abortion groups to go pound sand.

Some more fun news about Nancy Mace! She ran down the street to jump on DC Sewer Troll Steve Bannon's podcast with Matt Gaetz after the vote. She bemoaned her dire campaign finance straights and begged the Troll King's small-dollar lunatics for help. I highly doubt she wins the next primary, and if she does, this hands a competent Democrat all the ammunition they need to label her an extremist.

That said, take a second to ponder the idea of running to *Steve Bannon* for help on alleged 'moderate women's issues'.

Sometimes we need some gallows humour to help us through these times, and it's always amusing to watch someone who presents as 'normal' try to work with these people and become completely and helplessly flummoxed. The crazy wins -every- time, and yet there's always another contestant. Unfortunately I think there's a group of voters out there doing the same thing.

The article was insane "They were so angry at me! They called my office and threatened my staff! They pulled all my campaign funding! Please help me!" I have no clue what she was expecting.

I said this in a reply to another comment the other day: it seems like playing dumb is a thing for Republican women? It's like they're trying to conform to 1950s gender stereotypes - all of them. If I wanted to be paranoid I'd say it's a Republican plot to undermine all female candidates by making sure their own are stupid and guessing that voters won't discern the difference.

Expand full comment

Although I guess a woman choosing to be a Republican is self-selecting for dumb, so maybe they just are.

Expand full comment

It's not just the women. The R men play dumb too, although many don't have to play.

Expand full comment

Yeah I guess I'm thinking of a specific type of dumb, when they express surprise at the extremism of the party. That seems to come more from women, but then women are expected to be more reasonable in the first place, whereas it's considered fine for men to be batshit crazy. Do we really think there aren't dozens of male congresscrtitters who are just as bad as Boebert and MTG? 🤷

i am confused about what you wrote about the deceptive trade practices laws targeting CPCs—since both the IL and CO laws passed this year have injunctions and CT’s attempt was unsuccessful

okay amending what I said about CT, there was a lawsuit filed against the CT law, but it was later dropped which I forgot—oops!

Thank you for all of this, the info I have come to rely on fro AED keeps me sane because information is power! One tiny correction -- Emily's List only fund-raises for and endorses pro-choice women candidates -- in this case Adam Schiff is on his own.

In recent year’s they’ve actually funded pro-choice men’s campaigns too! Look at OpenSecrets and you can see that they have donated to Schiff’s recent Senate campaign.

Despite being a donor, I did not know that! Thank you for telling me.

I didn't know that. Although it stands for Early Money Is Like Yeast, and it's not like Adam Schiff ever needed help fundraising :)

That piece of shit Marcus Silva is doing us a favor, if anyone's fucking paying attention. Forget hypotheticals, we have more than enough stories of the real harms that abortion laws are doing with real names and real faces (well, the raped children usually aren't identified by name). Get everyone in the country to hear these stories and be disgusted by them. There is only so much time, about a year. We can't count on the media; they refuse to stop both-sidesing everything. (Which is why Nikki Haley and Nancy Mace are "moderates" - because SOMEBODY has to be the moderates; otherwise they'd have to admit the truth about Republicans). Trump and his followers are openly advocating fascist revolution. It's all out there. But voters would have to pay attention to something - anything - besides their own bitching and whining about the economy. Will they? I'd say we get what we deserve, but only half of us deserve this.

Expand full comment

So far all I can tell is that the reason the MSM calls Mace and Haley "moderate" is because they are against throwing women in jail for abortions, and have said they think birth control should be legal (but do they support it being accessible?). I think that actually says a lot about the truth of the Republican party if that is "moderate"

Well said. The corporate ownership really push that "Both sides do it!" fallacy.

Yes WaPo and the NYT have both fallen victim to it. It's like they only report half the story.

Some good news about Nancy Mace- in retaliation for her vote, McCarthy's superPAC stopped funding her campaign. She's desperately and pitifully scrambling to raise money off her vote to oust him, but the full weight of the establishment is coming for her.

So frustrated with mainstream media insisting that Nancy Mace is moderate, and then scratching their heads that she joined seven extremists in bringing down McCarthy. Hint: Maybe she’s NOT moderate!

Anyone who crosses the threshold into Steve Bannon's podcast dungeon, for any reason (except to set it on fire) is *definitely* not a moderate.
