Thank you Jessica for reporting on this. My organization has TPPI contracts with OPA and there isn’t any information (obviously). We’re just taking it day by day as we watch them dismantle family planning and sex education 😢
Here is my post with information on how/where/when to vote in Virginia, so your readers can share it with anybody they know in Virginia. We have to elect Abigail Spanberger for Governor and keep the house of delegates blue in order to pass the Reproductive Freedom Amendment. https://talkaboutchoice.substack.com/p/election-day-in-virginia-is-november
I doubt there is an abortion clinic anywhere near Lynchburg, VA. That is where Liberty University is and the students there were required to attend a rally when Trump visited. I attended a forum with delegates running in the district next to mine. The republican candidate claimed that Virginia would have the most liberal abortion laws in the world if the Reproductive Freedom Amendment gets passed. WTF? She also claimed that it would have been better if the Democratic party legislators in Virginia had modeled the RFA more on California's laws, as if she would have supported it then. She (Amanda Batten) wants to ban abortion. She didn't say that though because she knows the majority of Virginians support abortion rights. Her opponent, Jessica Anderson will support the RFA. My district is actually adjacent to that district and I posted about the delegate candidate I voted for. Dr. Downey. At a time when we cannot trust the federal govt about health care, we could use more doctors in legislatures. Here is my substack post: https://talkaboutchoice.substack.com/p/perfect-time-to-have-a-doctor-for
What Trump just did in New York — gutting the federal office that funds birth control access and preventive women’s health care — is not policy. It’s cruelty disguised as governance.
This isn’t about “efficiency” or “restructuring.” It’s a deliberate attack on contraception, cancer screening, and STI testing — lifelines for low-income women, teens, and families who already face the steepest barriers to care. Shutting down Title X support in New York means more unplanned pregnancies, more untreated infections, more late-stage cancers — predictable, preventable suffering, inflicted by choice.
And the hypocrisy is staggering. The same politicians who rail against abortion are slashing the very programs that prevent abortion by providing contraception. It’s not about “life.” It’s about control. Controlling women’s bodies, futures, and freedoms by stripping away the basic tools of autonomy.
This is what authoritarianism looks like when it wears a health policy mask: starve the safety nets, criminalize the consequences, and then stand back while women and families pay the price.
The public should call this what it is: an attack on public health, an attack on equality, and an attack on every person who dares to plan their own life instead of living under someone else’s ideology.
I read AED religiously and so many times this one thought comes to mind. The age of consent in Idaho is 16. They really need to make it 21 if they want to be consistent with the level of responsibility that comes with having sex in their worldview.
Idaho is the home of the white supremist movement, which include many libertarians, who all have two things in common, the are selfish jerks who don't want to contribute to society in any beneficial way, and sooner or later they espouse lowering the age of consent.
Yes, totally, but they want to control women so they will lower it instead. So many men who follow Trump believe rape is their due, They feed off each other. Women must start fighting for our lives, not just our rights. Never thought for a minute that we would have to face our very existence evaporating again!
I worked for PPFA and NARAL; in ‘73 at age 26, I fought to get a tubal ligation and finally did. My first civil rights actions were as a kid with my parents. All we’ve done - many before me - see one schmuck and those who do not understand - yet - the losses - going away. So appreciate your work.
Thank you, Kristin. My professional work too was for those doing good - in my opinion- and tho I made far less money than if I’d chosen to work with others, as a consultant in a specific field, it was my way of bringing together more people who did more good. Not everyone has a choice and we each do what we can.
Thank you Jessica and team for this report. It doesn’t surprise me that during the government shut down a sh*t load of changes are happening to bolster the GOP plans.
I will say this. You can try to restrict abortion but you cannot stop it. We will find a way. Buying pills overseas, traveling to border countries or old fashioned herbal medicines. More people will die but they don’t care.
I hope everyone person orders pills and gets a stockpile of them. Plan B as well.
My heart goes out to the individuals who don’t have the financial means or are in abusive relationships.
I feel we need to stand strong and help the best we can. ❤️🌸

How can they charge anyone with practicing medicine without a license if abortion isn’t healthcare?
That is a charge the pregnancy crisis centers should face.
