The history of intrauterine devices dates back to the early 20th century. ...
"Ernst Gräfenberg, another German physician (after whom the G-spot is named), created the first Ring IUD, Gräfenberg's ring, made of silver filaments. His work was suppressed during the Nazi regime, when contraception was considered a threat to Aryan women. He moved to the United States, where his colleagues H. Hall and M. Stone took up his work after his death and created the stainless steel Hall-Stone Ring. A Japanese doctor named Tenrei Ota also developed a silver or gold IUD called the Precea ring (transl. pressure ring) or Ōta ring.
The hormonal IUD was also invented in the 1960s and 1970s ..."
So the IUD as a way of applying hormones did not occur until nearly seventy years after its initial discovery as a birth control device. It could not have functioned except by preventing implantation. So the basic function of an IUD could only be by preventing implantation. That's it.
Why are there so many who claim to uphold the right to abortion who will not admit this simple, obvious observation about the IUD. If something is stuck in the uterus that doesn't belong there, then the uterus should function so as to prevent gestation from occurring. Gestation could not successfully occur if there is some foreign object in the uterus. The uterus preventing fertilization is pretty unlikely. As long as there is an ova together with sperm in the uterus, fertilization is going to occur, even if an IUD is there, there is not much else the uterus can do about it. All that can occur is the preventing of implantation.
We need to change the narrative a bit. Until you have implantation, nothing that happens to that gestating tissue should qualify as abortion. If gestating tissue is expelled naturally for some reason before implantation, that's not even a miscarriage. You only have a miscarriage after implantation. Abortion is the removal of gestating tissue that has implanted on the uterus. Doing anything before that is just birth control.
Retired women’s health NP here with over 35 years experience. IUDs and birth control pills DO NOT CAUSE ABORTIONS. They prevent pregnancies from happening. Not only that but there are other medical reasons girls and women might need to use IUDs or birth control pills. What about girls/women who have such heavy and or painful periods that their life is at risk? Or what about the women who are at extreme risk of ovarian cancer. That woman may want to preserve her fertility and once she has her children then she might elect to have her ovaries removed to prevent that cancer. I’m just so very disgusted with politicians trying to dictate what a woman can and can’t do with their bodies.
Across the U.S., anti-abortion groups have quietly unveiled their next front: convincing women that birth control is dangerous — and laying the legal groundwork to restrict or ban it outright.
This isn’t paranoia. It’s happening right now. And just like the attack on abortion, it is being sold under a veil of “concern” for women while weaponizing misinformation and political power to strip away autonomy.
Here we go… I’m 62, but I have “little sisters” in my life! What’s the shelf life of the pills & does it help or hurt to keep them in the freezer. I’m in CA so I don’t have to break any laws to buy them. Yet.
There is so much extreme anti-abortion legislation being churned out that is flying under the radar - people have no idea because legacy media doesn't cover it either at all or as it should be covered - as critical new information. The story about $10M in contraceptives being destroyed was really two stories reported as one. I'm so glad AED called out the most important aspect of it being the Trump's new definition of IUDs, hormonal implants and birth control as abortifacients. It's incredible that the incessant and escalating threats to women's reproductive is so underreported. This is a human rights story that is barely getting the national coverage it deserves. I wouldn't know even a scintilla of what is happening without AED - so thank you AED for your cutting edge reporting!
It’s common knowledge that pedophiles want total control of a female’s ability to procreate. This is ancilla/serva, fancy girl, sex slave mentality that must be destroyed. If all pedophiles were gone, there would be peace. The administration and all its supporters are pedos
100% and everyone needs to understand what the reclassification of hormonal birth control and IUDs means for birth control access in the U.S. I wrote this piece several weeks ago but it feels like the central tenet has been missed in the outrage over destroying birth control in Brussels. This is coming to the U.S.
Trump insists we quiet down when he and his Christian Nationalist cohorts are destroying womens' lives, and pretend that they are not indeed fascists. Yeah, right. No way, no how.
I asked Google, "Do IUDS prevent the implantation of a fertilized egg?"
https://www.google.com/search?q=do+iuds+prevent+implantation+of+a+fertilized+egg
And I get,
"Yes, an intrauterine device (IUD) can prevent implantation of a fertilized egg ...
Most IUDs work by ... making it difficult for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterine lining.
... the IUD can create an environment that is not conducive to the implantation of a fertilized egg."

According to Russell Vought and Trump, womtn exist solely to keep house and pop out babies for their godly husbands.
It's sick.
Any woman who votes for Republicans needs to have a sanity check
We saw this coming. The next logical step of oppression.

Yep, this one is MAHA and MAGA teamed up/merged
It’s been going on for some time now in the shadows, so to speak.
