Just want to add: I 💯 think you’re correct that many of the *voters* feel this way. That’s a nuance I often struggle with. It’s the anti-abortion legislators and courts and prosecutors who are doing fuck all to protect women that get my ire.
And the corporate media apparatus that fails to consistently call out the bullshit because they’re so thirsty to interview these people.
But yes most voters are oblivious to the consequences of the legislation and 💯 think they are doing it for the babies.
My antiabortion *very active LDS* dad and I have had some choice words about abortions and I have watched this grown ass man break down into sincere crocodile tears over abortions. It doesn’t matter he has no fucking clue about what abortions are or reproductive law or Roe or even the women in his life who are alive because of D&Cs and abortion doctors. He will never know. Because that’s too nuanced. For him this is only a matter of faith. A church leader said it’s bad and that’s enough for him. Jesus wants him to save the babies. No exceptions. It’s nauseating.
