No, sorry. I keep hearing this, that it's all about hating women. It isn't. It's about saving babies. We who are old enough to remember when these people embraced a terrorist front remember their battle cries, "Don't kill your baby", "Save the babies", "Baby killers!"
Just want to add: I 💯 think you’re correct that many of the *voters* feel this way. That’s a nuance I often struggle with. It’s the anti-abortion legislators and courts and prosecutors who are doing fuck all to protect women that get my ire.
And the corporate media apparatus that fails to consistently call out the bullshit because they’re so thirsty to interview these people.
But yes most voters are oblivious to the consequences of the legislation and 💯 think they are doing it for the babies.
My antiabortion *very active LDS* dad and I have had some choice words about abortions and I have watched this grown ass man break down into sincere crocodile tears over abortions. It doesn’t matter he has no fucking clue about what abortions are or reproductive law or Roe or even the women in his life who are alive because of D&Cs and abortion doctors. He will never know. Because that’s too nuanced. For him this is only a matter of faith. A church leader said it’s bad and that’s enough for him. Jesus wants him to save the babies. No exceptions. It’s nauseating.
If they think those are babies, then they don't think women are people, they think they are incubators. Which is accurate. For 99% of us here, that's hating women. You seem to think if people were persuaded they were not babies, it would change something. But these people oppose contraception and no-fault divorce too. They have a very specific view of the role of women, as a tool for men (and 'God') to use and nothing more. THAT is the problem. You cannot separate any of the 'baby' talk from that. It may be an emotional catalyst, but the underlying thought process that makes it possible is a view of women that is nowhere near fully human.
If we cannot expose the fairytales and mythology that anti-abortionists have about a woman's pregnancy, we will never restore the right to abortion.
That is not to say there are not other problems regarding beliefs about women and sexuality in general. But clearly misogyny is not all there is to it. There is a lot of derelict and corrupt beliefs about sexuality in general across the entire political spectrum that threaten men and women alike.
Yep, agreed, there is absolutely no baby involved when there's an abortion - the baby is what is born at 9 months.
These are the extremists that assassinate abortion doctors and bomb clinics, they are terrorist groups- and I do believe that they hate women, but they pretty much hate everything. Are these extremists going to adopt all tge unwanted babies? No they are not, so they don't really really care about the babies....., it's about making the woman pay for even having sex, these people want to repeal, outlaw birth control. Not because they love babies but because it's reproductive control of women, no exceptions for rape or incest either with these radicals. I firmly believe these are the type of men that want to lower the age of consent and start taking child brides. Texas will be Iran, they lowered the age of consent to 9 years old because Muhammad took a 9 year old wife - - but of course children cannot consent, it is rape.
I was LDS and I genuinely believe the LDS church leadership thinks its separate but equal gender roles policy that prohibits women leaders is empowering for women. I also believe that it’s hateful and discriminatory against women. Well meaning bad policies are still bad.
Put another way: if their policies focused on protecting women AND babies we would see radically different policy proposals. And we don’t. Cause *they do not prioritize women.* Especially *those* women.
I used to think bad people were clever. 2016 taught me a lot of bad people are just not smart. They can’t problem solve. They make dumb choices and won’t recognize they are the ones who touched the hot plate.

No baby is injured when a woman gets an abortion.

Whatever the intent, the outcome is hating women.
Insert why not both? Meme.
