I'm a registered nurse at Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains. Per an emergency call this morning, effective immediately we can't see ANY Medicaid patients for ANY service at all.
Make it make sense. So a low-income Medicaid patient wants birth control… but Republicans can now deny her access to Planned Parenthood to get it. It’s so humiliating, sad and infuriating.
I don’t even know what to say about this. Can’t someone/an organization step up and keep this from happening? Melinda Gates or Mackenzie Scott? A giant donation to protect women’s health? A way to KEEP Planned Parenthoods open as a big ‘fuck you’ to Republicans - at least until Dems can hopefully take things back? Too many people don’t realize all of the services PP provides… Only about 3% is abortion (not that it matters!) But if the richest women in the world can step up and draw attention to this fact, it would be phenomenal. What a nightmare.
One day again, in the not too distant future, the Dems (for all that they are ineffective right now) will have a trifecta in Washington. This shit, what can be, will be legislated out of existence, along with the disasterous tax cuts and the rest of the nightmare black hole bill. Perhaps you think I'm overly optimistic, but I believe it. I will live to see the orange fuck out of office. I will live to see the day the orange fuck dies. I will live to see the day the repukelicans get what they deserve.
The Dem trifecta will only protect female human rights and female access to reproductive health care IF the voters who gave them power PUT PRESSURE on those Dems to:
1. Remove the deadline attached to (but not part of) the ERA amendment (already ratified by the required 38 states minimum). What Congress hath added, Congress can taketh away.
2. Put an Archivist in who will record the Amendment into our Constitution, and by doing so add the 28th Amendment, giving females FULL EQUAL RIGHTS in this country.
3. Begin to write/rewrite laws that make sure women have the right to a safe, legal abortion again. Overturn laws that don't allow women to make decisions about their own bodies.
4. Write/rewrite laws in many areas (employment, education, etc.) that affect females in this country as they enjoy the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, just like the fellas. Overturn bad laws that prevent females from exercising their full human and civil rights.
5. Impeach the corrupt judges on the SCOTUS, and/or expand the Court!
And most importantly, get Congress to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights bill, and the President to sign it into law. Without voting rights, we got nothin'! End Jim Crow 2.0!
I wish to see that with all of my heart, but that would require enough americans to pay attention, and go out and give them enough votes to fix things. Too many buy the right-wing propaganda that "both sides are the same", they are not!

There is something I am not understanding about this. It is routine for charities to split up their operations for example into a 501(c)(3) and a 501(c)(4) to avoid limitations on what 501(c)(3)s can do. Why couldn't Planned Parenthood split up so that it no longer provides abortion services, and create a separate, independent organization that does? I realize that this involves considerable expense and hassle, but why wouldn't it work?
Because the republicans will still lie, they already have a political fund-raising arm, and a medical services arm and they constantly conflate the two.
Linda Greenhouse, who writes on the Supreme Court, has pointed out that the SC decision allowing states to deny Planned Parenthood Medicaid funding is even worse than it looks. They essentially found that if a law like the one giving Medicaid patients the right to choose their provider didn’t specifically include language saying they can sue for redress, then victims can’t sue to defend that right. That is, the government can violate your rights with impunity because you don’t have the right to sue them unless the law granting that right says so. She points out that this argument will endanger many of our civil rights, including voting rights.

I asserted that the Democrats who lead the Democratic party just rolled over and played dead. There's so much more they could have done and could still be doing for that matter and they didn't do any of it nor does it seem likely they have any plans to. I hope you are right. I have two fears about the anticipated closing of hospitals:
I fully expect Catholic hospital chains to swoop in and buy up rural hospitals, guaranteeing further restrictions of healthcare for women.
I worry that what resources there are, will be sent only to red states, mitigating the closing of hospitals there.
Totally sick about this vote today coupled with the phone call of congratulations from Putin to Trump.
